Captain Fenton also donated 1 million rounds of rifle bullets and 1 million rounds of shotgun shells to local armories throughout Louisiana. These contributions allowed local arsenals to develop large stockpiles of munitions which they could use during wartime circumstances. As relations between France and England deteriorated during World War I, Captain Fenton decided not to donate more weapons but rather send cash donations instead. Mandeville, Louisiana is a small town in southwestern Louisiana. The population was 1,335 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Iberia Parish. The town was founded by French colonists in 1804 and named for General Pierre-Simon La Salle as part of the colony's attempt to create a barrier against Spanish influence on the Gulf coast. The name means "place where trees grow." In 1828, Mandeville became the capital of Iberia Parish after its creation from parts of St. Tammany and Rapides Parishes. In 1830, it also became the capital of Claiborne Parish after its creation from parts of Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. A courthouse and jail were built in Mandeville in 1834. A cotton gin was built in Mandeville in 1836 and continued to be used until 1941. That year, it was replaced by a modern cotton mill complex that remains today one of the most important employer complexes in town with over 100 employees. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln toured Iberia Parish and selected Mandeville as his destination for a speech given at an event commemorating Louisiana's admission into the United States as a state; this speech helped spur development around that area including what would become Baton Rouge (then called New Orleans). In 1870, Mandeville began to experience heavy European immigration due to crop failures caused byorse storms which hit many areas along the Gulf Coast during those years; this led to increased growth around that area including what would become Baton Rouge (then called New Orleans). In 1901–1902, Hurricane Agnes destroyed most of downtown Mandeville and damaged much else within Iberia Parish but did not damage Baton Rouge; this led to increased development around that area for both towns despite some remaining destruction throughout those years because Hurricane Agnes had been very destructive across so much territory on both coasts! In 1924–1925 Hurricane Elmer destroyed much business activity within both towns but fortunately no homes were lost or damages done however due to high winds speeds throughout central Louisiana many structures were downed especially power poles making communication difficult especially during these times particularly when weather conditions allowed proper grounded lines
