In 1888, the company relocated to its current location at 9th Street and Poydras Avenue in downtown Lake Charles. The building has been home to the company since that time.
Lake Charles is a city in central Louisiana and the county seat of Jefferson Parish. The population was 153,868 as of the 2010 census. It is located on the lower Mississippi River and its downtown core is surrounded by U.S. Route 90/I-10, which forms its eastern boundary and Interstate 10's main north-south artery. The area now known as Lake Charles was long inhabited by Atchafalaya (Chickasaw) Indians who hunted deer, hogs, turtles, and other animals there for their food. The first Europeans to visit this area were French traders who landed here in 1699 during the Louisiana Purchase from Spain. In 1785, Captain Pierre Laclède built a ferry across the river at what is now called Lower Lake Charles so that goods traveling upriver could be unloaded at New Orleans without having to go through Mobile Bay or Baton Rouge. The town developed around this ferry landing until 1815 when Congress created Rapides Parish to include all of present day Jefferson Parish including Lake Charlesbourg (later renamed Lake Thibodaux). By 1840, most of the development in today's downtown core had occurred; rapids had been dammed off part way down the river below town and a wharf had been constructed onshore to enable steamboats to dock while being towed downriver by barges. In 1837, Jackson County was established from parts of Jeffersonshire and Rapides parishes; Jackson County became an independent parish in 1850s under Louisiana statehood following Annexation of Texas into the United States In 1870s another wharf was added upstream from what is now downtown Corenham Street; this wharf served as an important transportation hub for goods moving upriver from New Orleans via rapids on both sides of the river until it was destroyed by flooding in 1922 after Hurricane Andrew struck nearbyCorenham Street Bridge - leaving only one small pier remaining downstream from where Main Street crosses I-10 near its junction with US 90/I-10 just east of downtown Corenham Street

Lake Charles (originally called the "Lake of the Ozarks"), located in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, is a large and artificial body of water that was created by the construction of the Mississippi River Delta Project. It has a total area of 1,830 acres (690 hectares), making it one of the largest man-made lakes in North America. The body of water was formed by damming up the Ouachita River between Lake Providence and Lake Charles. The name comes from French catherine meaning "heart" or "lodgement." The first inhabitants to live in what is now Rapides Parish were Osage Indians who dwelt along the edge of present-day Baton Rouge and within sight of Lake Charles. By 1810, white settlers had founded two small villages on opposite shores of what would become Lake Charles: Port Hudson on one bank and Union Point on another. The first permanent European settler arrived in 1811 when Andrew Jackson set out for Missouri with his army following victory over Mexico at Tomahawk Creek. Heading north, he passed through rapids near present-day Baton Rouge and discovered an opening into the Yazoo River valley which linked Mobile Bay to Indian Territory eastward. After exploring this area for several weeks, he named his find after James K. Polk, then presidentofthe United States - henceforth known as Big Jim - because he could see no other solution for conquering Mexico without crossing Red River territory controlled by Choctaw Nation leader Tecumseh Sherman. In 1816 Jackson's successor as president issued a proclamation creating what would become Rapides Parish from parts of Livingston Parish including current Baton Rouge County; it was not until November 3rd, 1821 that Orleans Parish was created from Saint Landry Parish eastward to include most of modern Metairie parish westward to include all or part of Bossier City proper.
