In 1824, Lafayette was founded by General James K. Polk, and it soon became one of the most important cities in Louisiana. After he became president in 1845, Polk began to build a railway system that connected Louisiana with Spanish Texas. This made Lafayette an important port town and helped make it a center of trade and culture. One of the most famous people from Lafayette was Napoleon Bonaparte, who was born here in 1804. He served as general in France during the Napoleonic Wars and then went on to rule Egypt for six years before dying there in 1870. In addition, Lafayette is home to several renowned museums, such as theMusée des Beaux-Arts and theMusee d'Orsay.

Lafayette is a small town located in southwestern Louisiana, about 20 miles southwest of New Orleans. It was named for General Lafayette, the hero of the American Revolutionary War and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. The population of Lafayette was just over 11,000 at the 2010 census. Lafayette has been inhabited by Native Americans since before European contact. French traders and missionaries arrived in Acadia (now Nova Scotia) in 1608 and began exploring this part of Louisiana in search of new land to settle. In 1718, King Louis XV granted a Royal Warrant to Pierre Le Moyne de La Salle to explore what is now Acadiana and secure routes into Canada for France’s growing colony. Captain William Broussard followed up on this grant two years later and discovered an area that would become Lafayette County. In 1803, Lafayette became the capital of Louisiana after Napoleon Bonaparte moved from Paris to control much of Europe following his victory at Waterloo. The city grew rapidly under French rule as cotton plantations were developed along with a major trade center for goods brought back from America across the Gulf Stream. This period also saw significant architecture developments such as Saint-Jacques Cathedral (now known as Notre Dame Cathedral), which was completed in 1805; it remains one of downtown LA’s most iconic landmarks today. Following World War II, Lafayette experienced some growth due to its proximity to both New Orleans and Houston during that time period's post-war boom era – although many aspects of life remain little changed since then save for slightly increased prices facing certain types or items specific to Lafayette while others have not changed at all since then (e.g., electricity rates). However overall economically activity has slowed notably due mostly to numerous factors outside our town but we are still fighting hard everyday just like everyone else here!
