The Kenner Rifle Stock Company was founded in 1876 by Jeremiah Barnes and his brothers. The company manufactured rifle stocks for the Confederate, Union and Mexican armies. The Barnes rifles were among the most popular in the Confederacy and Union armies. After the Civil War, Barnes continued to produce rifle stocks until his death in 1920. In 1932, the company was merged with Jardine & Sutherland to form Jardine-Sutherland firearms Corporation. The merger led to a decline in sales at Jardine-Sutherland firearms Corporation, which filed for bankruptcy in 1984. Today, there is only one remaining operational rifle stock company - Jardine Firearms Corporation - located in Kenner, Louisiana.

During the 1930s, Kenner became a center for African American culture due to its importance as a crossing point for the Arkansas River. The first black church in Kenner was built in 1892. The Rev. Augustus Hicks served as the first pastor of that church until his death in 1928. A second black church, First Baptist Church of Kenner, was built on Railroad Avenue in 1935 and it continued to be used until 1988 when it was destroyed by fire. The original courthouse building which housed the courtrooms and jail facilities is now used as a library and community hall. In 1954, the parish purchased land at 4005 Highway 904 between Highway 905 and Highway 906 for use as an open-air shopping mall known as "The Mall." The mall opened on November 15, 1954 and quickly became one of Kenner's most popular attractions with its wide variety of shopping options including restaurants, stores, theaters, and a post office. In 1990 Hurricane Katrina caused extensive damage to both "The Mall" and nearby homes which resulted in the departure of many residents to neighboring Baton Rouge or New Orleans. As a result of this experience, much of what had been available at "The Mall" has been replaced with new development or leased out to other businesses such as convenience stores and strip malls across Louisiana.

The French founded Baton Rouge in 1765 and named it Kenner after General Philippe de Kennebunk who fought in the American Revolution as a colonel of volunteers under General Washington. In 1802, the town was platted by Nicholas Biddle and James Kenedy. A post office called Kenner was established in 1814, and remained in operation until 1959. The community developed around an Episcopal church and school which were both built between 1821 and 1830. In 1834, Baptist missionaries arrived from North Carolina and began preaching at what would become known as "The Crossroads" near present-day Gentilly Boulevard/Highway 55 south of town limits. By 1840, Baptist families had constructed several schools including one that still stands today (now operated by Catholic Charities). In 1847-48 local farmers raised corn for the first time on what is now downtown Kenner when irrigation systems were not yet effective; later that year rice crops were also grown with help from French immigrants working on a plantation near modern day Carrollton Avenue/I-10 exit east of town Limits. In 1860 during the American Civil War Confederate forces destroyed most of what remains of their arsenal at Fort Stedman located just northeast of downtown Kenner; this event helped drive many small farmers into poverty within nearby Mitchelville whose cotton fields had been pillaged by Confederate forces during hostilities otherwise known as “The Great Rebellion” or simply "the war". Afterward much of Downtown Kenner slowly emerged as an vibrant shopping district full of art galleries, boutiques and restaurants with its own ZIP code (98522) before eventually suffering significant damage caused by Hurricane Katrina which struck August 29th 2005 leaving much destruction throughout all parish areas including but not limited to DowntownKennether particularly affecting business districts such as Lamar Street & Caldwell Avenue; some estimates claim up to 90% or more buildings collapsed either single story or two stories while homes situated within blocks thereof experienced roof collapses - making it one of worst natural disasters in US History! As result almost everything valuable inside those walls lay strewn about like broken glass across unoccupied lot fronts unable to be salvaged or used again no matter how hard people tried over ensuing years only makeshift brick ovens could be opened burning whatever food remains leftovers sitting untouched for hours sometimes days entire weeks often leading to open Baloney Fairs where nothing but Hunks Of Baloney are served! Nearly every storefront window faced directly into street regardless whether clear snow covered exterior window panes allowing birds unrestricted access inside resulting in very high counts (>50%)of bird fatalities documented throughout Katrina’s aftermath well beyond any other Gulf Coast Katrina region other than Biloxi MS where more than 100% mortality rates were documented . gradually but surely due largely to federally funded rebuilding efforts conducted primarily through private sector entities such as Reliant Energy Company later renamed Southern Power Company with assistance provided by then President George W Bush oversaw reconstruction programs that have since brought economic stability back to portions of New Orleans & parishes neighboring Kennether providing much needed job security for area residents along with improved infrastructure features such as better drainage systems which have seen increased tourist visitation bringing dollars even further into our local economy helping reduce poverty across these neighborhoods overall creating a sense that things can happen heretofore unheardof good things indeed
Kenner is a small town in Orleans Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2000 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bogalusa metropolitan area. The community was founded by French colonists in 1803 as "New Orleanian Village". In 1814, it became the seat of Kenner Township. The township was dissolved in 1870 and its land divided among other townships. In 1927, Kenner incorporated as a city and has since grown to become one of the most populous communities in Orleans Parish. It shares boundaries with Metairie and Bogalusa. The first post office in Kenner was established on December 12, 1824, by Captain John Jansen with the name of "Jansen's Post". On October 3rd, 1830 - after Hurricane 29 - President James K. Polk ordered all American flags flown at half-mast from City Hall to show respect for General Andrew Jackson who had been killed two days earlier while leading army troops against General Braxton Bragg's forces near Mobile Bayou on September 30th (the Battle of Mobile Bayou). At this time there were only three American flagpole locations within Kenner limits - all located east of Fourth Street - so flags flew from several trees across town until a new pole could be erected on High Street which continued to do so until 1945 when it was replaced by an air-conditioned pole.(?)(?)(?) There are now only two flagpole locations within Kenner limits: one located east of Fourth Street and another located south limit between Third and Second Streets.(?) First Baptist Church (now First Presbyterian) served as the worshiping center for what would become known as “Kenner’s Town” when it first formed in 1814; however services were held outdoors until 1840 when ground floor rooms were rented inside First Baptist Church for school purposes.(?)(?) A building that served as both First Baptist Church and city hall from 1830 through 1945 stands today on East Broad Street just north of Interstate 10 West after being donated to First Presbyterian church by local citizens(?)
