Kenner is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Kenner was first inhabited by the Houma tribe of Native Americans. In 1718, Pierre La Salle and his French colonists founded Mobile Bayou on the north bank of Mobile River in what is now Kenner. The area became part of Spanish Louisiana following their defeat by American forces at Monterrey in 1803. In 1811, Jesús Arguello de la Garza organized a group of Mexican federalists to resist American control over Texas and New Mexico and proclaimed himself emperor of all Mexico City. He called upon Mexicans living east of the Mississippi River to join him in this revolt against Ulysses S. Grant’s American occupation of that region. A force under Arguello de la Garza crossed the Rio Grande into Texas on October 15, 1811, and began an guerrilla war against Grant’s forces until they were repelled near San Antonio on November 2nd. On December 3rd, 1811 General José Joaquín Murillo y Dos Santos announced to all inhabitants of New Spain (Mexico) that he had succeed Arguello de la Garza as emperor and would rule from Mexico City with an advisory board made up mostly of military officers who would advise him directly rather than through a viceroy appointed by Spain; this change ended years-long pretensions by some Mexicans to independence from Spain which many felt had been encouraged by Grant’s occupiers after their victory over Santa Anna at Palo Alto during Mexican independence War (1846). On January 6th, 1812 Murillo y Dos Santos ordered his army across the Río Grande into Texas where it met only token resistance from Ulysses S., who withdrew his army when he learned about Murillo's intentions; though he claimed victory over America for Mexico at Palo Alto Creek (!), international opinion saw this as another example of Ulysses S.'s 'genocide' towards aboriginal peoples in California during Mexican-American War (1846-48). At Independence Hall on July 4th 1840 James Kenedy petitioned Congress for Louisiana Purchase including Kenner lands which were ceded to France along with parts of adjacentagencies such as Acadia & East Baton Rouge Parish - becoming one large parish making its home within limits set forth in Congressional Act dated March 14th 1800 between joint authors John Jay & James Kenedy aka “The Father Of His Country – As approved By His Majesties The Presidents Of The United States At Their Own Names” - renaming entire parish Kenner after then Congressman James Kenedy! - marking both origins & beginningofassociation between Parishioners hereabouts thruout history!
