Kenner is a small town located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 9,819 as of the 2010 census. It is the most populous parish in New Orleans metropolitan area. The Kenner-Bossier City Combined Statistical Area has a population of over 29,000. The first multi tool shop was built in Kenner by George Purdy in 1885. Mr. Purdy had two sons, Arthur and John Purdy, who also operated businesses in the town. In 1907, Jens Jensen opened his own shop at 4th and Donnell streets which became known as Jensen's department store. In 1924 Harry Schneider opened his own shop on Magazine Street which became known as Schneider's Radio Shack. By 1930 there were ten businesses operating in Kenner with a population of over 7,000 residents! In 1948 John Tisdale opened his business at 2030 Elmira Road which became known as Tisdale's Barbecue Shop! This establishment was eventually sold to Bob Forrest and renamed Forrest's BBQ Shop! At this time Kenner had eleven businesses with a population of over 14,000 residents! In 1957 Norma Ellis began operation of her grocery store at 1700 blocks of I-10 West which became known as Ellis' Grocery! This establishment later became part of Sam’s Club!. By 1970 there were thirteen businesses operating with a population of over 26,000 residents! In 1973 the community acquired its current name when it incorporated into the city limits of New Orleans! The city was named for General Lafayette, who helped lead America during the American Revolution. The town was founded by Acadians who arrived in North America in the seventeenth century. Kenner's first mention in records comes from 1595 when it was known as "Caden'touche." The name may be derived from the word "kenner" meaning "a place where berries grow." In 1764, Captain Pierre-Alexandre de Laclède named Kenner after his brother-in-law, Jacques Lafitte. In 1803, General Andrew Jackson moved his family to what is now Baton Rouge and granted them land east of the parish line that formed present day Kenner. The community developed rapidly due to its location on a key trade route linking New Orleans with Mobile and other parts of Louisiana. By 1830, there were over 100 residents living in Kennertown and some 1,500 people employed in agriculture or fishing industries. Extensions were built to include brickyards and sawmills during this time period; however, it would not become a permanent community until after World War II when many new homes were erected along State Route 9A which ran through the town center. During World War II many local businesses closed due to enemy bombing raids but they reopened shortly afterwards because of American war supplies brought into Louisiana by bombers flying over Normandy on D-Day (6 June 1944). At one point more than 1 million pounds of munitions had been delivered through Kenner during that campaign and much of it still remains today buried beneath ground alongside old buildings and equipment used during World War II. After the war many people returned to their former lives while others took up jobs in nearby cities such as New Orleans or Baton Rouge. After several decades of growth, however, development accelerated once again following Hurricane Katrina along with an influx of refugees from other parts of Louisiana that suffered damage from Hurricane Rita back in 2005-2006. As a result of all these events Kenner lost most if not all its businesses including its iconic brickyard which ceased operations entirely for about three years before reopening again under new ownership shortly before Doomsday 2006 thanks to President George W Bush's Emergency Management Plan called Operation Harvey Relief which aimed to help rebuild areas hardest hit by Katrina including Kenner specifically! As per usual postKatrina redevelopment has proceeded apace with few if any negative consequences for either locals or visitors alike making it one unlikely destination for Superstorm Sandy should such an event ever occur hereabouts!

In 1960-1961 two floods caused extensive damage to downtownKenner which included uprootsing trees and damaging several businesses including The Grain Exchange building which still stands today.. Flooding also destroyed much of what is now known as City Hall complex including most of the original architecture dating back to 1865 when these buildings were part of temporaryforts built around Lake Pontchartrain while New Orleans was being rebuilt following its devastating earthquake just four years earlier

It is the fourth-largest city in Jefferson Parish and the second-largest city in Orleans Parish. The name of the town derived from "Kentucky," which was named for Captain James Robertson who landed on its banks in 1718. The first permanent settler in what is now Kenner was Jean Baptiste de la Salle, who founded La Salle's Landing on a small island near present day Kenner Point on July 5, 1799. He also built a small chapel and trading post there. In 1827, Colonel John Lillard donated land to create what would become Kenner Township. The township had an area of just under 12 square miles (30 km²). In 1848 it became part of the parish of Orleans. On January 1, 1860, it became part of Jefferson Parish when Orleans was split into two parishes. As part of this change, Kenner Township became part of the new parish of Jefferson as well as being annexed by that parish’s larger city limits (to include New Orleanian settlements within its boundaries). On December 15, 1888 Hurricane Betsy struck New Orleans and destroyed most buildings within five blocks of Canal Street; much damage could be seen throughout central Kenner including many homes that still stand today with only their foundations remaining above ground. This event caused $2 million worth of damage to buildings and killed more than 100 people with over 400 injuries
