Kenner, Louisiana is a city in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 21,865 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Jefferson Parish and the second-largest city in New Orleans metropolitan area. At one time it was both. The settlement of Kenner was founded by French colonists on the lower Mississippi River in what is now northeastern Orleans Parish on August 29, 1718. The first white settler named Kenner was Jean Baptiste de la Salle who arrived from Biloxi with his family soon after. He established a trading post along the river near present day Metairie and named it Kenner for his home parish of Saint-Jacques (now Baton Rouge). On October 24, 1802, when Napoleon Bonaparte's forces invaded Louisiana to seized control of all its territory for France, they burned down much of Mobile Bay including much of Saint-Louis Parish as part of their campaign against American independence. This event marks the beginning of what would become known as Hurricane Katrina's devastating landfall on New Orleans that September: two days later at 4 p.m., Katrina made landfall about 8 km (5 miles) east of Kenner; by evening she had made landfall inside Jackson parish just south of St Josephs Bridge over Lake Pontchartrain and had killed more than a thousand people and caused extensive damage to residential communities across central and southern New Orleans County before weakening into a Category 1 hurricane over open water off Galveston Island resulting in significant loss of life and property damage throughout much southeastern Texas A&M University System – which included some 200 students living on campus - until late that night before dissipating over Gulf Coast waters hours later as a weak tropical storm. Since then many residents have moved out or been forced out due to various natural disasters such as Hurricanes Rita/Katrina, Ike/Brent (2008), Gustavus (2010), Matthew (2013) - each followed by waves or flooding associated with those storms’ aftermaths including an estimated 1 million+/- homeowners vacated since Katrina - Florence (2015), Harvey (2017) - each followed by months or years without any real relief being offered other than sporadic repairs/invasions here & there related to limited funding levels available & severely restricted access most anytime during those events making it difficult if not impossible even for first responders once back home trying to assess damage done (& often very little help available once returned). All told these have led to displacement rates anywhere from 50% up to 90%. As early as 1803 privateering boats sailing downriver discovered large quantities of saltpetre along this stretch between Baton Rouge & Alexandria found potential markets for its use by Confederate General Andrew Johnson's army during the American Civil War era but no actual production commenced until 1864 when plantationowners developed plantations around Tellier Lake using tidal power obtained from nearby Mars Hill Island whereupon saltpeter production resumed commercially within three years afterwards reaching an annual output exceeding $2 million prior

Kenner is a town located in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 3,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Baton Rouge metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1827 by Maynard Dixon and his family. Dixon named it after his father-in-law, General Andrew Jackson. In 1837 the town had a population of 25 people and was incorporated as a parish seat under the leadership of Judge John Neely Bryan. In 1848, Kenner became an independent republic when its citizens seceded from Rapides Parish to form their own parish. The republic lasted for two years before it was reabsorbed intoRapides Parish. In 1861, President Abraham Lincoln designated Kenner as the capital of Louisiana because Baton Rouge was then the state's capital city. The new capitol building was completed in 1865 and served as the government center for all of Louisiana until 1959 when New Orleans took over that role permanently. Kenner has had several businesses affiliated with it since its incorporation including Pabst Brewing and Refrigeration fame Anheuser Busch ( founder). In 1903 Pabst Brewing founded Jadwiga Brewery which remains one of Kenner’s most prominent institutions to this day; today’s Jadwiga Brewery produces more than 100 different brands of beer worldwide including Budweiser and Coors Light among others In 1915 local attorney A C Hargrave opened what would become known as “the first drive-in movie theater in America” at 820 Elm Street in downtown Kenner – now home to both Showboat Casino Resort & Park (a major hotel) & Steeleye Theater (an old movie theater) . This seminal event helped spur development around Elm Street such as Boulevard Place Mall which became one of New Orleans' most vibrant commercial areas . AsPenrose Aluminum Company established operations here beginning with production aluminum cans in 1951 soon followed by other heavy manufacturing plants like Alcoa Wire Harnesses and Duracell batteries before being sold off to another company in 1984 - all while still headquartered on Elm Street! Today Penrose Aluminum Company operates out of a new facility adjacent to Showboat Casino Resort & Park - making it one Of The Original "Drive-Ins" On Bourbon Street!
The area that is now Kenner, Louisiana was first populated by the Caddo people. The first European to visit the area were French traders in the late 1500s. The French built Fort de Chartres in 1699, which served as a trading post between France and Native Americans. In 1718, General James Wilkinson of England transplanted the Acadians who had been living in Nova Scotia to what is now Kenner. Wilkinson known for his victory at Quebec during the War of 1812. During Andrew Jackson's presidency (1829-1837), much of this area changed hands due to feuding among different groups of Americans. At one point, part of Kenner was under British control and another part was under American control. Finally, in 1838, all areas were combined into one government controlled by Jackson. After the Civil War ended in 1865, many settlers arrived in what is now Kenner from all over Louisiana looking for land to farm or build homes on. By 1870, there were around 5000 residents in what is now Kenner Township. By 1900, there were over 3000 residents and businesses in what is todayKenner Township including several churches and a small school district
