In 1911, the town became a parish and then a county. The courthouse and jail were destroyed by a fire in 1955. Kenner is one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns in New Orleans County. Its original settlers were French Canadians who arrived from Quebec in 1802 and erected logs cabins on land that would later become known as Wilkinson's Landing. A post office was established at Wilkinson's Landing on April 15, 1824, under the name of "New Iberia." By 1830, most of what would become Kenner had been developed as part of the town of New Iberia (later renamed Kenner) on the banks of the Assumption River adjacent to present-day Lafayette Boulevard and Canal Street. The first school in what is now Kenner was built on Chenier Road near present-day Roosevelt Road about 1855; it served as both an elementary and high school until 1926 when it merged with Loyola High School to form Loyola/Kennedy Catholic High School District No. 2. In 1927, all schools within that district were combined into one comprehensive school system - Kennedy Catholic High School District No./Kenner Consolidated School System - before being again reorganized to createKennedy Catholic High School District No./Lafayette Consolidated School System in 2009 pursuant to Act 727 du Roché which created four new parish districts across New Orleans County including Lafayette Parish which included much of eastern Kenner Township including its largest community – Garden Oaks – until that time unincorporated parts lay within Lafayette Parish only making up 0.1% or so of its total population but constituting almost 60% or so of its land area! So much for local control – after over 150 years centralized decision-making took place only 5% or less (and no more than 10%) remained within municipal boundaries! All this centralization went hand-in-hand with declining enrollment rates resulting from prohibition laws passed by state legislators during Reconstruction era prohibiting alcohol salesidemembering parishes increased accordingly! Despite protestations from several elected officials throughout his tenure Governor Briand vetoed Act 727 du Roché thereby restoring local authority over schools although some elements continued such as consolidating daily comic book stores into single entity licensed under state law whose licenses applied only to these stores not also selling alcoholic beverages! In addition several other municipalities comprising less than 1% (or even 1000000 residents)of their respective populations consolidated with Lafayette Parish creating such entities as Ascension Parish (population: 12 million), St Tammany Parish (population: 20 million), Jefferson Davis Parish (population: 25 million) and Crowley City Limits Borough Park Authority consisting solely of descendants or descendants’ spouses living within city limits descendant’s families having resided there since earliest times! Although often cited as indicative proof positive of national decline during late 19th century Prohibition era many independent historians have disputed this assertion asserting instead that although consolidation occurred intraparish level there remain many unique cultural features extant which defy easy description or comparison without special permission from governing bodies!) In 1935 two junior high schools—John Fenton Junior HS & Our Lady Of The Lake HS—were opened adjoining Andresen Middle/High School; both lasted until 1942 when they merged into Andresen Jr./HS operated by Kennedy Catholic Schools Corporation; following World War II Andresen Jr./HS merged with Woodlawn Avenue Elementary/Secondary HS serving grades Prekindergarten through 8th grade becoming JFK/Andresen JVHS; following expiration date for current charter JFK/Andresen JVHS disbanded effective September 30th 2013 concurrent with merger joinering all other Teach For America corps members teaching KIPP preK thru 8th grade primarily along parallel streets throughout parish providing essential leadership development opportunities for latest generation students!!
