Kenner is a city in the U.S. state of Louisiana and the seat of Acadia Parish. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern banks of the Mississippi River, about north of Baton Rouge. The town began as a trading post on the banks of this river in 1814 by entrepreneur Pierre Laclède, who named it after his native Kenner, near Paris. In 1825, Laclède's nephews founded La Nouvelle-Orléans, which became Orleans in 1848 when New Orleans was created from parts of four other parishes. In 1861, during American Civil War (1861-1865), Confederate General Robert Ewell decided to move all Confederate forces out of Orleans Parish into neighbouring Jefferson County after successfully blockading it for several months. The Battle of Kenner ensued on October 19th 1861 and resulted in Confederate losses including 3 officers and 50 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded; Union forces lost only one officer and 10 men killed or wounded

Kenner is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,644 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie-Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The early history of Kenner can be traced back to 1814 when it was known as "Citizensboro". In 1822, the new parish of Jefferson was created from parts of Lafourche and Rapide parishes and Citizensboro became part of that parish. In 1834, citizens of Kenner petitioned the Louisiana Legislature to incorporate their village as a separate town under the name "Kenner". The request was granted and on November 15, 1834, the first town meeting was held at the present site of Kenner courthouse. The original plat for Kenner included only a few blocks along US 10 west of its current intersection with US 98 south; today's downtown area occupies most of this original plat. The first settler in what would become Kenner were William Mosely and his family who arrived in 1800 from Ireland. They built a log cabin on what is now Courthouse Road near modern day Elm Street. From here they farmed until 1830 when they decided to move westward into what is now Lafayette Parish where they met other Irish settlers also moving westward including John Doherty (1794-1870) who founded nearby Houma. A second wave of Irish immigrants settled around this time and by 1838 there were eighty families living in Kenner proper with twenty farmssteads scattered among them plus four taverns or stores which operated during pioneer days before railroads made travel much easier and more affordable for people looking for food and entertainment outside their homesbase communities like Boston (Ma), Philadelphia (Pa), St Louis (Mo), Cincinnati/Pensacola (Fla.), Baltimore/Washington D C etcetera etcetera etcetera etcetera). By 1840 there were two churches in town - one Congregationalist and one Baptist - both founded by English Baptists led by Reverend James Hickey who had come over aboard HMS Bounty during Captain Cook's first voyage to North America in 1775 while exploring along our coasts from Cape Cod through Newfoundland up through Maine et al.. By 1850 there were six businesses operating within city limits: four stores, two hotels &one sawmill all owned by men; three blacksmiths & one wagon maker; one physician; two teachers; three carpenters & two shoemakers; thirteen farmers including six cotton pickers & sixteen horses used mainly for plowing & harvesting land; eleven gardeners involved primarily with raising vegetables& fruits& flowers& nut trees& shade trees etc.; nine blacksmiths - five making swords, spears,, hammers,, tongs,, chisels ; three wheelwrights - repairing wheels , building wagons , welding cars ; one cooper - tailoring pants . There also existed several smaller hamlet settlements scattered throughout eastern Lafourche Parish including Bellefontaine(present day Metairie), Carriere(present day Crowley), Cross Keys(presentday Longueville), Emerson(presentday Erath)etc.) but these did not coalesce until after 1860 when steamboats started carrying people between New Orleans and various points east along Lake Pontchartrain creating an ever growing demand for railroad transportation across open water corridors that crossed our coastal prairies giving rise to such names as Delta Junction (!); Gulfport Junction (!); Mobile Point Landing Junction (& Mobile Point Ferry landing)[2]; Eastern Port Follett Junction (& Mobile Point Ferry landing)[3], Jackson Plantation Settlement(& East Baton Rouge Parish boundary)[4], Old South Bend Settlement(& Monroe County line)[5], Cypress Gardens Settlement(& Vernon County line)[6], Prairie du Chateau Settlement(& Plaquemine County line)[7]etc.) era typically defined herein although some later years might include locations previously unmentioned such as Bogalusa Bayou[8]; Iuka Bayou[9]; Sabine River Preserve[10]etc.)
Kenner is a city in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bogalusa Combined Statistical Area. The first settlement in Kenner was made by Colonel John Baptiste de la Salle on a bluff over the Mississippi River east of present-day Kenner Boulevard and Market Street in 1785. He named his new town after himself, Kenneth or La Salle Boulevard (now I-10). In 1821, A. J. Beaumont built a brick and granite courthouse on State Route 2 north of downtown Kenner. The town grew rapidly due to its location close to Interstate 10 and its many banks, businesses, and homes. By 1900, Kenner had more than 1,000 residents and two hospitals; it was one of the largest cities in Louisiana before Katrina destroyed most of it in 2005. In 1905, Mayor James Fenton persuaded the state legislature to createKenner Municipal Airport which served as the homeport for Air France's New Orleans operations from 1945 until 1969 when the airline relocated to Tulane University's airport south of downtown New Orleans. The airport closed permanently following Hurricane Katrina on August 29th 2005 A year later Hurricane Rita struck southern Louisiana killing more than 100 people in Opelousas parish In 2007 controversial plans were announced by then mayor Mitch Landrieu to demolish much of downtown Jefferson Parish including much beloved historic buildings like City Hall and Stonewall Jackson Barracks during an Economic Development Summit event held Downtown Jeffrey In 2009 groundbreaking took place for a $27 million project that will bring jobs back to central business district including demolition of some old structures such as City Hall while also creating new uses for space vacated by rail yards
