Kenner is a small town in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1816 by Captain James Kenner and his family. The first post office was established in 1818. The present-day Kenner community was laid out in 1881 by John C. Nowlan and named after Commander James Keneder of Company A, First Louisiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Cavalry). The name "Kenner" came from an early French settlers' name for the area now known as Ascension Parish: "Kenneresque". In 1830, Captain James Kenner's brother, John C., set up a trading post here with goods brought overland from New Orleans via the Atchafalaya River Bridge. By 1840, all but one of the original families had perished in a natural disaster called the Great Flood; however, local oral history maintains that Captains James and John Kenner were among those who arrived to help rebuild what had been lost. Apostle Wm. White built a new church on Main Street near present-day Second Baptist Church in 1850; it still stands today and is used as both a church and museum. In 1865, Confederate General Braxton Bragg chose this location as his final stronghold before he surrendered at Appomattox Court House two days later; within weeks of his surrendering troops vacated this area for good leaving behind an abandoned urban center with few buildings other than churches standing pre-Katrina In 1881 McKnight Brothers began operating a sawmill on Pointe des Cygnes Road about northeast of town; it continued operation until 1902 when it went out of business due to lack of customers In 1901 Captain Jno.'s Store became home to Natchitoches County's first telephone company which connected most parts of parish including Kenner Captain Jno.'s store also served as court house until 1960 when it burned down

The current site of Kenner was first inhabited by Native Americans in 1765. In 1803, it became part of what would become Louisiana. The town was named for Major General John C. Kenrick who fought in the American Revolution as a colonel from Tennessee, but he died before the town could be built. The community was chartered on December 22, 1804 by General James Kenedy with a population of about 100 people. By 1860, there were over 1,000 people living in Kenner and it had an flourishing cotton industry which supported around 200 families. However during World War II much of this industry went away due to lack of resources or enemy bombing raids that destroyed many homes and businesses; however some businesses managed to reopen such as Bob’s Barber Shop which reopened after being bombed out in 1944). After the war began again demand for cotton pickers decreased so much that many small farmers left Kenner for good (this also caused problems because when one farmer left his land revert back to its natural state which made it difficult to sell). So while most businesses failed during World War II they did manage to keep open such as Bob’s Barbershop until 1951 when they closed their doors permanently due to financial instability brought on by inflation (although they reopened again shortly afterwards). In 1949-1950 Kennether experienced its first tornado outbreak which resulted in damages valued at $545 dollars ($ today) including $150 damage done to local churches; however this event didn’t cause any long-term destruction like later outbreaks would do (the next tornado outbreak happened 3 years later)). It wasn't until 1957 when a severe thunderstorm produced wind damage worth nearly $1 million dollars within 2 hours span that started causing fear among residents; however this storm didn't produce any tornadoes or damaging winds like otherstorms earlier that year). Kennether then saw another major tornado outbreak on May 10th 1961 with more than 25 events taking place throughout the night including both single family residences as well as churches which caused extensive damage including total loss of windows and roofs inside buildings! This storm also killed 4 people according to some reports however since these rates are not always accurate no definitive estimate can be given since these reports are often pseudonymous or have been fake in order try and minimize liability ( nevertheless this event remains one of history's deadliest tornadoes ever! ). During 1963-1964 there was another widely publicized tornado outbreak taking place all throughout New Orleans; however although officials believed most events were false alarms all 8 reported Tornados actually struckKenner! This included 5 EF3+ tornadoes plus TAFB #2 which completely destroyed property near Industrial Park East!). Despite eventually debunking all 8 eventsakes investigators still believe there may have been moretornados involved than initially thought! unusual features associated with these storms include very high speed winds gusts up TO 100 MPH+ several unique funnel clouds sightings!).
