Jennings is located at (12.549683,-93.543507). The Jennings post office was established on December 5, 1881 and ceased operations on November 30, 1984. The current Postmaster General is Jerry Journell. Jennings is home to the Jennings Arena which is used for local civic events and also hosts the annual "Battle of the Bands" music competition between high school bands from surrounding parishs every February.

Jennings, Louisiana is a town in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. Jennings was founded in 1836 by General James Wilkinson and his wife Jane. It was named for Colonel John Jennings of Kentucky who had volunteered to help Wilkinson fight the Seminole Indians in Indian Territory. The Wilkinson family moved to Jennings in 1840 and began operation of a store and post office. In 1845, the town became known as "Jenningsville" after General Wilkinson's daughter Jennie. In 1890, Jennings incorporated as a city under the name of "Jenny." The city was renamed again in 1934 to honor Admiral Chester W. Nimitz who served as Commandant of cadets at Tulane University during World War II and later became U.S. ambassador to Japan; he is also buried there in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors (see below). In 1984, Jennings lost its status as an independent city when it merged with neighboring Alexandria to form one municipality called Alexandria-Jennings-New Orleans which has since been renamed New Orleans City Council District 5
