Jennings, Louisiana is a small town in the parish of Orleans in the north-central region of Louisiana. It was founded by Nicholas Jennings and his brother John Jennings on a family farm in 1836. The population was 1,500 at the 2000 census. The community is located on U.S. Route 59 near the Arkansas state line. Nicholas Jennings was born in 1792 in London, England to parents who immigrated there as slaves. He became an entrepreneur, starting a woolen mill and then a cotton gin in Jennings County before moving to New Orleans and starting his own grocery store there in 1827. After the American Civil War he returned to Jennings County and opened a general store until his death in 1865. His son John continued this business until it merged with another company to form JN Corp., which still operates today as an independent grocery store chain with six stores throughout Mississippi and Alabama. In 1904 Nicholas' grandson William Noyes purchased one of JN Corp.'s stores from its parent company for $2 million dollars, making him one of the largest landowners within Orleans Parish at that time (the other large landowners were Michael Leduc and James Aiken). Jennings also had an influence on music; he donated land to Lafayette College for use as campus farmland, which now includes part of what is called "The Meadows" complex – including two football stadiums (Lafayette Stadium and Tulane Stadium) – as well as various other recreational amenities such as tennis courts, basketball Courts, ponds/lakes, rifle ranges/amusement park etc.. After Nichol's death John married Sarah Lyon (daughter of Colonel Samuel Lyon), who served as First Lady of Louisiana from 1875-1879 under Governor David Crenshaw before becoming acting governor when he resigned due to health problems in 1880; she later served as governor again from 1893-1901 under Adelbert Skelton before dying after giving birth to their only child Jennie Louise Keough Knoppersmith (nicknamed "Pip"). John Noyes died suddenly while away serving duty during World War I; Sarah Lyon survived him but never resumed her role as first lady; she instead become active politically both locally and nationally during her lifetime serving twice stints on the Louisiana State Senate (1925-1928 & 1935-1939) before retiring finally at age 85 years old after four terms beingpassed through both houses unopposed by any lieutenant governors or members of either major political party having appellate jurisdiction over all but three parishes within Orleans Parish save Jefferson Davis Parish where they were all elected by direct vote without regard to political affiliation although they administered those parishes largely unchanged since their original creation prior thereto - leaving Jennie Louise Knoppersmith sole owner & head honcho thereof once again - something she has carried out ever since successfully despite numerous attempts by jealous rival factions within her own influential clan upon which most notably none have succeeded even once - all bar one!

In 1865, General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia after fighting for six months against Union forces commanded by Ulysses S Grant under the presidency of Abraham Lincoln. This event led to more than three million African Americans being forcibly removed from southern states—the largest forced migration in American history—and moved north into newly created white areas such as Texas and Oklahoma where they were offered free land or citizenship only if they worked off their passage through various forms of labor such as picking cotton or working on railroad construction projects. As Reconstruction ended on April 6th 1913,[1] Jennings became one of several communities along with Washington D C , Memphis Tennessee , St Louis Missouri , Albany New York City /New York State /New Netherland Colony /Quebec CityQuebec – all situated withinHouston County – which adopted new constitutions providing for limited white participation in local governments while black citizens continued to be disenfranchised.[2] On January 1st .1920[3], this exclusion ended when Houston County voters passed a bill authorizing African Americans served by Houston Municipal Schools - including those living within city limits - to vote without restriction under state law.[4] This move allowed for further integration following World War I which saw increased troop movements across Texas due to arms purchases from Europe
