The bipod is a type of infantry equipment that has been in use by the United States Military for over 60 years. The bipod is an unstable platform that can be used to extremist positions, and as such, it has been removed from service several times. The first bipods were designed in the early 1900s and were used by American Infantry Volunteers during World War I. However, the weapon was not successful and was quickly replaced with more stable platforms. In 1950, the United States Marines began using bipods in their Marine Corps. The Marine Corps continued to use them until they were retired in 1974. After being retired from service, the bipods went through several modifications before they finally became available again in 1984. They are still used by many military forces around the world today.

The town was named for James A. Jennings, a lawyer and politician who served as a delegate to the Louisiana State Legislature from 1890 to 1908. Jennings also served as mayor of Jennings from 1902 to 1904. The first post office in Jennings was established in 1882, and it operated under the name "New Orleans." In 1893, the post office changed its name to "Jennings," after James A. Jennings' grandson-in-law, John Gistt Jenkins Sr., who had moved to Lafayette decades earlier and began trading goods along what is now US Route 11 south of New Orleans. According to the United States Census Bureau, Jennings has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 5,811 people residing in the township: 3,746 households out of which 38% had children under the age of 18 living with them; 60% were married couples living together; 10% had a female householder with no husband present; and 30% were non-families. 24% of all households were made up of individuals and 8% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older. Jennings, Louisiana is a small town in the parish of St. Bernard in southwestern Louisiana. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. Jennings was founded by Virginians Isaac Jennings and John Fenton on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River in 1811. The first store and post office were built there in 1814. Jennings was named for James Kenedy, an early settler who purchased land there from the Spanish in 1802. In 1807, General Andrew Jackson's forces burned down Jennings' courthouse and other buildings during their campaign against Spain on the Gulf Coast. The town grew rapidly after it became a stop on the Chafee-Harris line of stagecoaches heading to New Orleans from Kentucky and Tennessee during the early 19th century. By 1830, Jennings had over 100 residents and two hotels—the Thomas Hotel and Post Office (now known as Historic Lafayette). In 1865, Confederate Brigadier General Nathaniel Pembroke attacked Union troops stationed at Jennings with cannon fire while they were eating dinner inside one of its hotels; nine soldiers were killed and dozens more wounded. The attack marked one of several skirmishes between Confederate units and Union forces across southeastern Louisiana that year; later that year, Union troops burned down most of Jennings while occupying it as part of their wider operations along the American eastern seaboard. Jennings escaped destruction when Union troops retreated following their defeat at Gettysburg; however, mostof its merchants, traders, artisans, physicians-surgeons, and others went into hiding or exile shortly thereafter. By 1870, only a few hundred people remained in Jennings; by 1930 its population had fallen to less than 100 individuals again due to various factors including World War II military activity within hurricane-ravaged southeastern Louisiana as well as growing industry elsewhere in New Orleans County until its demise following Hurricane Katrina on August 29th 2005%. However, much remains intact today including downtown streetscape which has been maintained since 1865 thanks to government funding through Houma Community Development District No 4A
