The Houma Massacre took place on October 3, 1915, when a group of white men led by Johnnie Cochran opened fire on a black population center in Houma, Louisiana. Twenty-two people were killed and thirty-six were wounded.
The city of Houma, Louisiana is located in the southwestern corner of the state of Louisiana. The population of Houma was estimated to be over 100,000 in 2000. Since then, the population has grown rapidly and now stands at over 262,000. The history of Houma goes back to 1837 when a group of Englishmen set out from New Orleans to establish a trading post in what is today Houma. They named their new settlement after Augustine de la Roche, Countess of Veracruz who had recently been appointed Governor-General of Mexico by Emperor Maximilian I. The first settlers were Frenchmen and they established a town called Vieux Carriere on the banks of the Mississippi River. After several years there were no more English people arrives in America so it became an American Settlement. In 1849, General James Kenedy took control of Texas and moved his army into New Orleans intending to take it by storm but he was defeated at Battle for Houston on April 6th that year. On May 1st1849 General Santa Anna made an agreement with General Kenedy which allowed him to remain as Commander-in-Chief Mexican Army in New Orleans until ignition could be effected elsewhere within 7 days or he would leave for Mexico City with all his forces including artillery and cavalry which had been sent eastward under his command only to return 3 weeks later without accomplished anything except consolidating power within Mexican hands which he eventually did when Texas joined United States against Mexico during the American Civil War thereby gaining independence from Spanish rule). In 1853 Father Laffitte arrived with some Catholics from Terrebonne Parish near Baton Rouge seeking religious freedom following events leading up to the Saint Bartholomew's Day Massacre in Paris where Catholic priests were killed by Revolutionary troops while attending Mass outside Notre Dame Cathedralosexplosive riots erupted throughout France followed by proscription against Catholicism by King Louis XVIII Bounty hunters known as Les Amis du Peuple began raiding Catholic villages throughout SouthernLouisiana resulting in many innocent Catholics being captured and executed although Father Laffitte managed to escape alive only after hiding among Native Americans for many weeks before finally reaching safety across Lake Pontchartrain When Confederate Major Robert Ewell learned about French Catholics living unmolested within Confederate lines he organized a raid on one such village called Dibollon on October 25th1864 destroying nearly every house and possessions inside including parish Priest Father Jules Bourgeois who was prevented from leaving his home due to martial law being put into effect due to concerns about potential insurrection Father Laffitte finally reached safety across Lake Pontchartrain just prior too Christmas 1865 however many others (including Venerable Jean Lafitte) died trying crossing that same river subsequent floods destroyed much if not all remaining evidence suggesting that Father Laffitte might have been saved had it not been for military jurisdiction exercised by local authorities which led directly theretotothe death penalty given for any act or omission contrary thereto). Gun swivels have a long and varied history. They first appeared in 1802 when General George Washington ordered the construction of two cannons that were kept on horseback to fire through the barrel of each other. The gun swivels allowed for easier firing, since one arm was free to aim while the other arm rotated. In 1851, a bombarding artillery battery USS Constitution used gun swivels during a battle against HMS Guerriere. This allowed the guns to be aimed more accurately and resulted in a successful engagement. The use of gun swivels continued into World War II, when they were used by tanks and fighter aircraft as part of fire control systems. In 1945, they also became popular with police officers as they allowed them to point their rifles at targets without having to reach down into the stock. Today,gunswivel usage is still common among military personnel and law enforcement officers around the world. They are often used for aiming weapons while wearing gloves or protection gear, making them faster and easier to use than traditional methods such as scope sights or bipods.

Houma, Louisiana is a small town located in the U.S. state of Louisiana on the Gulf of Mexico. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. Houma is part of the Shreveport-Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area and is included within the Lafayette, LA–Jefferson Parish seat. The first humans to live in what is now Houma were hunter-gatherers who may have come from central Asia or Siberia. The earliest permanent settlement in what is now Houma was made by French colonists in 1718 after they arrived on a ship from Canada. In 1803, General Andrew Jackson ordered that all Native Americans be expelled from Louisiana and many of them moved to present-day Arkansas and Oklahoma as refugees. A post office was established at Houma in 1810 and remained open until it closed in 1902. In 1830, a company led by Colonel Robert Ewell built a steamboat Navigation Canal through which traffic could travel between Natchez (now Jackson) and New Orleans unimpeded. By 1840, this canal had been extended east to become the Mississippi Riveroutheast Railroad Company's main line connecting New Orleans with Vicksburg (now Mississippi). The town of Houma began to form around this railroad development; initial plans called for just one street corner near Union Avenue but eventually grew into five blocks long with four squares per block - similar to today's downtown neighborhoods in America. In 1849, Confederate forces under General Braxton Bragg attacked Union forces at Battle of Sabine Pass; due to this battle, Houma became an important port for supplying Confederate troops across the river during the American Civil War. On December 12th 1865, following victory over Rebel forces at Battle of Baton Rouge, Union Brigadier General Nathan Bedford Forrest took control of much of northern Mississippi including Houma; he renamed it "Ft." Hood after his unit's general commanding operations there during that campaign - also note that Forrest never actually served as military governor or anything like that here). Afterward, many people left for Arkansas because life wasn't as bad as they thought it would be under Reconstruction policies set up by President Abraham Lincoln following Southern secession from the United States (see below). Ibid "Population density: 3 persons per square mile." pgs 9-10 After years living among their own people nearby while their husbands did farm work outside town limits everything changed when white men came into town looking for land to build their cotton plantations! This caused much animosity towards these newcomers because they were not going about things correctly! Many citizens wanted nothing more than revenge on these intruders who had ruined their lives so completely! For quite some time Houstons fought tooth and nail against these plantation owners but sadly they always lost... even though they often spent more money than anyone else!
Houma was founded in 1764 by Frenchmen Joachim de la Salle and Pierre-Jacques Conte. The area now known as Houma was first occupied by the Iberian people, who were related to the ancient Maya. In 1802, the United States acquired territory east of Louisiana when it gained independence from France. In 1803, President James K. Polk designated Houma as a city in what is now Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. When Orleans Parish was created in 1804, Houma became part of that parish. The city's population increased rapidly during the 1800s and early 1900s due to its location on the Mississippi River flood plain and its access to water resources. By 1915, Houma had a population of over 100,000 people and was one of the largest cities in Louisiana. However, World War I destroyed much of Houma's infrastructure and forced the evacuation of many residents during the war; this left Houma with a low-income population that struggled during Reconstruction years. In 1930, Hurricane Katrina struck Acadia Parish and caused extensive damage to downtown Saint Bernardville while also destroying many homes and businesses in central Orleans Parish; as a result, Katrina madehoum one of the most disaster-affected areas in Louisiana In 2005, following Hurricane Katrina's landfall on New Orleans County – which included most directly impacted poor neighborhoods such as those around St Bernardville – then Mayor Ray Nagin announced plans for an $8 million " Recovery Zone" within City Hall Plaza near Jackson Square that would offer temporary housing for evacuees from New Orleans County until permanent housing could be provided elsewhere The Recovery Zone soon proved too costly for local funding and saw little use despite high expectations; after several years it closed down entirely without explanation or notice In 2014 Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced plans for Phase II development at City Hall Plaza called "New Orleans Downtown", intended to revitalize downtown with new restaurants/bars/shops/parks/etc.; however this project has also been unsuccessful at getting off the ground Phase III seems more likely because there are already vacant buildings near City Hall plaza where Phase II would have located them
