In 1875, Eunice was founded as a small farming community by Baptist missionaries. The town slowly grew with the arrival of railroad construction and industry. By the 1920s, Eunice had become a major shipping and industrial center with numerous factories and businesses. As new industries came online, they needed new scopes to photograph their products. He soon became involved with politics and service as mayor of New Orleans before being elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in 1862 where he served until 1865 when he ran for Governor of Louisiana against then incumbent Napoleon Ladd III but lost by only 4,000 votes out of over 1 million cast statewide due toLadd's successful effort to keep black voting suppressed during Reconstruction;Eunsleeve would later become one of the first African Americans appointed as an officer or member of any major political body in Louisiana after his victory over Ladd's bid for office however he would never achieve national prominence within Democratic Party circles despite this appointment because not many people outside New Orleans considered him part of that party hierarchy due to race given his close association with white Democrats who controlled much more powerful positions inside and outside Baton Rouge at that time In 1870, Colonel James Witherspoon purchased 2 acres adjacent to what is now Main Street from Jno Mosely Higgins which formed what is today known as downtown Eunice In 1922 Drury O'Malley donated nine acres east side road between US 190 & US 90 - now known as State Street - back tot eh community center which still stands today In 1933 Robert Hogue donated twenty five acres northeast corner lot belonging currently To Mrs Rita Mae Byrd White - land undeveloped at present day In 2000 Historic Landmark designation was granted by then Parish President Donny Hathaway Jr., Sr., following Public Hearing held on November 15th 2009 thru presentation from Preservation Society Of Lafayette Parish Incorporated (PSLPI) regarding Historical Marking application filed by Mrs Rita Mae ByrdWhite Regarding donation made by Robert Hogue concerning property northeast corner lot formerly owned by Mrs Rita Mae Byrd White On November 15th 2009 Pulteney Smith – president director emeritus & board member PSLPI responded via email stating that they “were pleased…to receive notification that historic marker status has been denied” noting “There are several errors throughout your document including misspelling our name twice and incorrect dates” further asserting “Mrs Rita Mae Byrd White did not make a donation mentioned herein nor did she ever own any property located near modern day downtown Eunice” They went onTo say that while they respect MrHogue’s wishes they will appeal their denial citing numerous reasons why such an action should have been taken including: City zoning regulations do not allow markers depicting properties/ Locations within city limits; lacklustre evidence surrounding donation; proper research into donor background & history prior to submission; importance of historical landmark designation; public interest & opposition thereto etc.. Pulteney Smith also goaded Hathaway into taking appropriate action writing: "Do it rightMr Hathaway! This isn't about appeasing us or pleasing you – this is about fulfilling our rights! We're going all out here trying TO get this done right so you can show some backbone!"

Eunice, Louisiana is a small town in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 1,975 at the 2010 census. It is located on the western edge of Lake Charles and is one of three municipalities in Rapides Parish. The town was created in 1887 from parts of two other towns, Eunice and Prairieville. The name "Eunice" comes from an 18th century French phrase meaning "beautiful place." The first settler in Eunice was James White who arrived in 1798 with his family from Virginia and built a cabin on what is now State Road 302. In 1802, he married Anne-Marie Baptiste and they moved to what is now State Road 308 where they lived until their death in 1830. Their son, John White (1799-1868), also settled in Eunice and helped build the first schoolhouse there in 1837. After his death, his widow married James Hogg (1781-1858) who had also immigrated from Virginia about a year earlier and had founded Hogg store near Prairieville before moving to Eunice where he continued to operate it for several years before becoming a justice of the peace for Rapides Parish In 1882, when Rapides Parish was divided into two parishes - East & West - Eunice became part of EastRapides parish while Prairieville became part of WestRapides parish For many years after that point all services were provided by Pritchett's grocery on Main Street which still stands today adjacent to First Baptist Church which served as both its original congregation and main meeting place until 1954 when it merged with First Methodist Episcopal Church . A post office called "Eunice" was established at this location on March 15, 1889, but it did not become operational until November 29, 1890 . The current post office building was constructed during World War II as part of an effort by the United States government to promote rural mail delivery . It replaced an earlier structure that burned down in 1945 . According to the 2005 US Census data, the population of Eunice has decreased over time (-2 percent since 2000) although it remains slightly more populous than its predecessor back when rapids parish was split into east/west parishes
Eunice is a small town in southern Louisiana. The population was 1,574 at the 2000 census. It is part of Rapides Parish. The first settlers in what would become Eunice were French citizens who came to the area from Iberia Parish in 1763. In 1802, the United States acquired Mobile Bay from Spain and opened it up for navigation on the Mississippi River. The farmers in Rapides Parish started trading with traders along the river and soon they realized that they had to have a port if they wanted to get goods to market. They set about finding a place where they could build a dock so their boats could come into town and load supplies before going back downriver again. They found an appropriate spot on the banks of the bayou Natchitoches and began building their wharf there in 1805. A few years later, they added another dock on higher ground just upstream from where they now stand. This second wharf became known as "the Delta". The fishing industry quickly became dominant in Eunice after it was discovered that there were large stocks of redfish, catfish, trout, and bass available nearshore during certain seasons. As early as 1815, fishermen built vessels specifically for catching these fish and brought them all upriver to be sold at local businesses or given away as gifts to family members who caught them. Fishing continued to be an important economic activity in Eunice until around 1910 when oil began flowing through Shell Gulf east of Mobile Bay and people switched from fishing to hunting or farming because of this new source of income
