The current name "Eunice" was given to the town by General James Wilkinson during his visit to Bossier Parish on December 15, 1854 while he was commanding military forces under President Franklin D. Roosevelt during their drive across Louisiana during Hurricane Season 1954-55

Under French rule, this area was largely agricultural until post-Revolutionary American occupation brought increased development in oil production in the early 20th century which led to increased economic opportunities for locals and caused much displacement among Native Americans living near Baton Rouge and Lake Charles (now Shreveport). During World War II, many residents relocated to coastal cities due to wartime rationing but many more remained within the city limits through various government programs like war work projects or emergency housing shortages caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. After Katrina, much rebuilding took place within downtown areas such as businesses along Canal Street including restoration of large timbered buildings; an ambitious project that cost over $100 million dollars and took two years to complete. Many current residents were first responders who returned home after Katrina while others have lived here all their livesvironing from elsewhere in New Orleans or Baton Rouge
