In 1802, General James Kenedy ceded all but 1/2 mile (1 km) of what is now known as Eunice to President James Kenedy for $5 per acre (0. 24 cents per square meter). At that time there was no road or post office within that area so mail had to be sent by boat or land delivery service such as stagecoach service between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. On July 3, 1803, General Andrew Jackson established an official post office at Alveziere after his victory over Vice Admiral Angloeur de L’Islet at the Battle of New Orleans on July 4th, 1803. During World War II many residents evacuated their homes during Hurricane Katrina because they did not have any means of sheltering themselves from the storm either onland or offshore. In contrast, most people living in Eunice returned home once Katrina ended. Some businesses that closed during Katrina reopened after being rebuilt using local materials including wood salvaged from old levees

In 1861, during the American Civil War, Confederate forces attacked Union forces at Fort Sumter in South Carolina; as a result, Eunice residents were among the first to take up arms against their southern captors. The town quickly came to play an important role within the Confederacy, and many businesses were established here that continue to operate today. In 1865, following Confederate defeat at Appomattox Court House, Eunice reverted back to United States control under President Abraham Lincoln; however, it continued to be used as both a trading post and military base until 1898 when it was annexed by New Orleans. After World War II ended with victory for the Allied Forces over Nazi Germany and Japan, many Eunice residents returned home; however, some continue to live here today (primarily retirees) while others have moved away altogether. Today there are around 400 people living in Eunice proper while also numerous small villages scattered throughout its rural area which support local agriculture and commerce based operations generating job opportunities for locals as well as tourists who visit nearby attractions such as plantations and waterfalls typical of this region’s culture war history
