Deridder is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans metropolitan area. The Deridder community was founded by German immigrants in 1881. A post office called Deridder was established in 1885, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first store in Deridder opened on Main Street in 1887. In 1937, derided as "The Littleton of the South", Deridder had one local high school which graduated its first class of seniors that year; however, the school closed abruptly two years later due to low enrollment and budget problems. In 1941, Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of what remained of Destrehan High School; however, students from nearby towns were able to attend classes at East Stroudsburg High School- which reopened after the storm- until September 6th when the school officially re-opened as West Stroudsburg High School under new leadership with help from derided "Pioneers" like oil millionaire Edwin Edwards Jr.. Deridder's first municipally owned grocery store opened its doors on North First Street on October 1st 1939; it would remain open until 1990 when it closed due to lack of profits caused by soaring prices for groceries and changing demographics within the community outside of medicine and education opportunities becoming more prevalent (among other reasons). On December 3rd 1938Deridder's only hospital - Dr J H Jewell Hospital - opened its doors following approval by then Governor Huey Long with assistance from then Mayor John Parker; both men were later enshrined into history as icons associated with their respective communities despite having little connection whatsoever to each others' early days or events/developments. In 1950 DeridDER voted overwhelmingly YES to become an Township! This event marked an important change for our Town & helped bring us up off our knees!

Deridder is a small town in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bogalusa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Deridder comes from French: "Deret" meaning "a marshy place." The first Europeans to visit this area were the French in 1785 and found it full of fresh water marshes that enabled them to find food for their horses and cattle. The town began as a small cluster of log huts on the banks of the Assumption River. In 1822, Deridder had a store and post office, two blacksmiths', three farmers', one grocery store, two churches (the First Baptist and Methodist), one school (for grades K-12), one doctor's office, four Methodists' homes (all with outhouses), and six millstones which ground corn. In 1825, Deridder had an addition to its downtown with three stores - Marshall's Store No 4 & 6 on S Broad Street; Hargrave's Store No 5 & 7 on N Main Street; and Mrs Morse's Store on W State Street - all operated by Mr Marshall. That year also saw the founding of a Masonic lodge at deridDER Lodge #2 which still meets monthly today. From here grewDerridder Wheelwrights Union Millinery School which opened its doors in 1893 until it burned down in 1955; then again from 1951 until 1957 it operated as Holy Angels Catholic School before becoming known as James Fenton High School after then Superintendent James Fenton who died in 1990 Derridder has always been an agricultural community with significant production of corn, beans, cottonseed oil and hay since early times when hides were used for clothing or shoes instead of paper products like today’s polyester pants or T-shirts being made out of recycled materials like bamboo or plastic). Deridder is a small town in Bossier Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,972 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shreveport–Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Deridder had a post office from 1868 to 1951. The first white person to live in what is now Deridder was James A. Hance who settled there in 1867. He and his family were among the earliest settlers in what would become Bossier Parish. In 1861, John Covington purchased land east of present-day Deridder from the O'Donnells for $2,500 cash and livestock. The early settlers in this area were farmers who raised chickens and pigs on their land until railroads came along and brought industrialization to the area which led to new business opportunities for these men and women. In 1881, Wm Burch bought some of Hance's land north of present-day Deridder for $600 cash and four slaves named Sarah Jane, Jemima (Jenny), Martha (Molly) and Nancy (Nancy Ann). This purchase marked the beginning of organized black settlement near downtownDeridder as well as other areas in Bossier Parish that would become important later on in African American history such as Pineville and New Iberia. Over time many more families moved into this area including those from neighboring Jefferson Parish including Fenton Street Gang members Tom Dooley & Mick Lyons during prohibition years when alcohol was outlawed throughout much of America By 1907, most of what is now downtownDeridder had been developed with stores, churches/synagogues (the first one being Zion Methodist Church built by Reverend Ebenezer Giles), schools ( notably Immaculate Conception School built by Mrs Jno Childress), an outdoor swimming pool completed in 1915 which still exists today (initially known as "The Pool" due to its location at derIDDER High School after that school moved away) and a few homes constructed by local entrepreneurs like Mr & Mrs Jno Forbes who platted various lots around town gridiron style layout beginning with lot 4teen northwest corner bounded westerly by Third Street; Lots 5th & 6th Streets extend northerly just past where Third Street meets Elm Street; Finally lots 7th - 11th Streets extend easterly beyond Elm Street leading down towards SHreveport . . . Today much newer construction has replaced all but one original building dating back over 100 years old on Main Street within blocks of where it once stood: The Citizens Bank Building dating back to 1909 opposite First National Bank
