Deridder is a small town in the parish of St. Bernard, Louisiana, United States. The population was 2,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first knife that humans were able to kill with was an Acheulian mani-toothed weapon called a "piercer" which was used as a hunting and torture tool. By 6000 BC, humans had developed throwing knives which became known as "spears". In Deridder, there are over 60 collected spear blades dating back to 8000 BC on display at the Parish Museum. At about 3000 BC, Deridder's earliest pottery artifacts were found and date back to 4500-3500 BC. There is evidence that Deridder may have been settled by Native Americans as early as 9000 AD when Paleo-Indian projectile points were discovered in the parish. By 1800 AD, Native Americans had begun referring to Deridder as "Kenahekun", meaning " Place of the Pig." By 1800 AD, kenai or pig meat was being cooked onsite for food purposes and items such as hams and bacon were being hunted down and consumed by local residents. At this time there also appears to have been some form of trade going between Native American groups and European settlers in what would later be called Louisiana Territory (present day New Orleans). In 1806 Governor John Crainn ordered all Indian groups living within present day Baton Rouge Parish except those living east of Iberville Parish must pack their belongings and leave within seven days or face execution without trial or just compensation from their Indian captors - this order effectively ended any traditional tribal relationship these communities may still have remaining today! In 1827 Acosta purchased 1/2 acre (0 km²) of land from La Salle & Company for $200 CAD; it would become known asAcosta Park today! The same year saw another key event when General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna granted land concession for irrigation studies in what would become known as Acadiana (now Rapides Parish). This area eventually became part of south LSU campus where both DeSoto Hall now stands & Spanish Fork Elementary School now sits! From here on out many important events occurred including: Trinity Episcopal Church founded in 1830; Lafayette High School built in 1902; First Baptist Church founded in 1911 & current building currently stands; Electric Light Company established 1886 thru merger with Westinghouse Electric Railway Co.; Hammonds Mfgrs’s warehouse built 1893 located now across street from library

Deridder is a small town in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana. The population was 1,836 at the 2000 census. It is part of the New Orleans metropolitan area and is located on the eastern edge of the parish. The community began as a farmstead on alet in what is now Deridder Township. When that tract was patented to Pierre Bruneau in 1806, it included all of present-day Deridder Township and much of modern Saint Mary Parish. As early as 1827, there were three churches in Deridder: one for Baptists, one Methodist, and one Roman Catholic. In 1847, when Lafayette Parish was created from parts of Lafourche and Webster parishes, DeridDER became part of that parish. The first school opened inDeridDER on October 15th 1830 by Reverend John Clements with twelve pupils. A log cabin served as the first schoolhouse until 1840 when a more permanent building was erected which still stands today known as "the Good Shepherd". The first teacher was Mrs Gertrude Ferguson who taught grammar, French and Latin until her retirement in 1865; then Miss Lavinia Bogan took her place for six years before Mrs Emma Jukes filled that position for four years (1879-87). For many years after this time education consist only of home schooling either by parents or children themselves since no public schools existed within walking distance from most residents. In 1896 derider construction began on not only the current high school but also an addition to it which would become known as "Grammy" Addition because it housed music classes for girls under the direction of Miss Anna Gramling (1905-1978). After World War II two new high schools were built: "Pioneer" High School in 1949 and "New Life" High School (now called Tower Hall) in 1961 which replaced what had been Gramling's last classroom. Today derider has 4 Schools including 2 Junior highs/1 Senior high (High school), 3 Elementary Schools(2 Pre K through 6th grade), 1 Middle School(7th through 12th grade) & 1 Comprehensive High School(13th through 17th grades). It was also a major shipping center, and its wharves were used to store goods brought in by sea from all over Louisiana. The town first appeared on maps as early as 1810. By 1840, it had a population of 2,500 people. The primary industry in Deridder during its early years was agriculture; however, this changed with the arrival of oil rigs in the area in the late 1800s. This led to a boom in local businesses, including an armory, bakery, lumberyard, cheese factory, and several churches. The city saw significant growth throughout the 19th century; however, by 1870 it had only 1,000 residents. The city experienced another period of growth during World War II; however, this time it declined after the war ended. Deridder remained an unincorporated community until 1959 when it became part of Shreveport-Bossier Parish.

The town started as a small settlement on the banks of the Red River, and quickly became an important commercial center for the area. In 1851, Deridder became an incorporated town, and soon grew into a major agricultural center. The town continued to grow rapidly during the late 19th century and into the 20th century, thanks to its heavy investments in irrigation systems and other infrastructure projects. Today, Deridder is home to a population of around 60 residents, most of whom are descendants of early settlers.
