Manufacturing began expanding into Deridder during this time as well; however, the town's decline following the late 1990s oil bust led to a decrease in manufacturing jobs and declining tax revenue which has resulted in mass layoff notices for many residents over the past few years. In recent years, some efforts have been made by local business leaders to revive Deridder through various initiatives such as tourism marketing and marketing assistance from derridder revitalization corporation (DRC). One key initiative being undertaken by DRC is trying to attract new businesses back into the town through various events such as job fairs and arts festivals that are offered annually throughout the summertime (e.g., July 4th fireworks show). Overall, there has been mixed success with regards to resurrecting Deridder since it has suffered greatly from economic decline over time
