Despite this terrible fate for the town and its inhabitants, many people have kept spirit alive by organizing fundraisers to help rebuild and reopen businesses in the affected areas such as Baton Rouge and Metairie. In spite of all that has happened since Katrina struck (and still happening),Deridderians remain proud of their community and its history which includes important moments like Hurricanes Betsy (1925) and Charley (2005).
