Deridder, Louisiana is a small town in the parish of Thibodaux, in the east-central region of Louisiana. The population was 1,686 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Mississippi River about halfway between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The first people to live in Deridder were members of the Caddo Nation. They migrated from central Texas in 1836 and founded what is now Deridder. The town was named for General James Wilkinson who fought with General Andrew Jackson against British forces during the American Civil War. A post office was established at Deridder in 1853, and it remained an agricultural center until after World War II when industry began to grow there. In 1937,Deridder received its own radio station which remains operational today as KMEP (1420 AM). Prior to that, Deridder had only one telephone line (which service stopped operations in 1984). In 1951,Derridder became a city and has since seen many development projects including several shopping malls as well as several restaurants and nightlife venues including Joe's Barbecue Shack which has been open since 1954 and still operates today! Today, Deridder is a vibrant community with many businesses and residents that are committed to their locales; playing music nightly at Joe's Barbecue Shack or hitting up local bars during their day time hours!

Deridder, Louisiana is a town in Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. Deridder is bordered to the north by Alexandria and to the east by Thibodaux. The first settler in what became Deridder was George Steuart who arrived in 1817. He founded a plantation on the concession of Pierre Saint John. The town named after him was platted in 1838 and grew rapidly due to its location near railroads and ports. It became a major center for cotton production until World War II when demand for munitions dwindled. During the early 20th century, Deridder was known as one of the most Republican areas in west Baton Rouge Parish. In 1922, it organized as an independent city with its own police department and mayoralty under then-mayor Fenton Crouch III. However, this arrangement eventually fell apart because of disagreements over political power structures within Deridder's city government - an issue that continues to influence local politics today. In 1959, Mayor Jimmie Dixon merged with neighboring communities of Thibodaux and D'Iberville to form New Orleans City Park which included much of what is nowDeridDER today's downtown area including both our old brick buildings dating back to pre-war days (the Main Post Office & Bank) as well as more recent modern structures built during post-WWII boom times such as Our Lady Of Charity Hospital (founded 1929), St Alban's Catholic Church (1927), Plessy Elementary School (1892), & Holy Trinity Catholic Church/Church Of Learning Magnet school located on Jackson Street between Herrin Boulevard & Market Street (opened 1954).
