Deridder, Louisiana is a small town located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Deridder may derive from the Choctaw word "irda" meaning "bad place." The first settler in this area was David Derridder who arrived in 1814. He and his family were the first to reside in what is now Deridder. His son John built a house on the current site of town in 1827. In 1834, Andrew McGee purchased 640 acres (253 hectares) of land east of town from David Derridder for $2,000 cash. This land became known as McGee's Prairie and it remained under McGee's ownership until 1903 when it was sold to Arthur Culp for $10,000. According to history books published during the early 1800s and up through World War II,Deridder had several schools: one school established by Nicholas de Lacoste in 1769; two churches-Methodist Episcopal and Presbyterian-in 1830; a post office established in 1840; three stores-Anchor Store (founded 1837), Dyer store (1841), and Hardesty store (1848)-and four blacksmiths-John Aiken(1829), James Posey(1830), Elijah Cockrell(1836), Solomon Thibodeaux(1838). However these establishments were all closed down by 1865 because of lack of students or money. In 1916 an addition to derridder High School was built which still serves today as one of its main functions-the primary school for children living within five miles (8 kilometers) radius ofDeridder Elementary School also provides programs services such as music education, special ed., technical/ vocational schooling for adults, daycare center management services with pre-kindergarten thru 12th grade instruction approved by state board Of Education; nursery/preschool services are provided free with purchase & use thereof The following year an addition to deridDER Middle Schoolwas added which once again served as one of its main functions-.now known as High School Annex #2 After years long efforts sponsored by local citizens & businesses’ groups (& input from state legislators) progress has been made making Derider community a thriving residential enclave that offers quality public facilities nestled among friendly people who have worked hard to make their home here! residents enjoy access to top quality education including PreK thru 12th grades according States approval thru DUO Programs only available thru community school system

Deridder is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,552 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a post office on January 3, 1872, under the name Pascagoula. On October 14 of that year, Deridder had its first election as an incorporated town with a population of six residents. In 1902 it became the seat of government for Jefferson Parish and was renamed after General Andrew Jackson. In 1917 Deridder had its first school board election and won three members to replace those who resigned due to illness or death. In 1930 it merged with neighbouring Lumberton to form what was then known as Livingston Parish; however, this merger did not last and in 1937 it reverted back to Jefferson Parish again when Livingston became an independent parish again. The Deridder-Lumberton School District opened in 1924 and lasted until 1974 when it merged into the new Jefferson- Metairie School District which still exists today*. In 1961Deridder annexed Pineville which gave it a total population of over two thousand*! In 2002 Hurricane Katrina caused extensive damage to Deridder including destructive flooding which destroyed all but four homes in town*! Overall damages were estimated at $30 million *! This event helped initiate many efforts aimed at rebuilding from both inside and outside of Deridder*!
