Deridder, Louisiana is a small town in southwestern Louisiana. The population was 3,615 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shreveport-Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town of Deridder was founded by French colonists in 1804 as a trading post on the Red River. In 1836, it became a parish under the jurisdiction of Shreveport. In 1861, it became an independent municipality and was renamed Deridder after General James Reeder's cavalry brigade that fought against Confederate forces at Baton Rouge during the American Civil War. In 1902,Deridder established its own school system which continue to operate to this day. The town has also been home to several businesses such as banks, churches, and factories until recent decades when manufacturing activity has decreased due to low economic prospects in the area. According to the 2010 United States Census Bureau, Deridder had a total population of 3,615; 1% more than its 2000 counterpart. Its racial makeup was 97% White (non-Hispanic), 2% Black or African American, 0% Native American/Alaskan Native, 2% Asian/Pacific Islander, 1% Pacific Islander US citizens or resident aliens*, 0% from other races*, and 1% from two or more races*%. Hispanic or Latino residents made up 4%, making up 12 percent of all residents*. As of 2010† derided with almost all white males ages 25 and older holding full-time jobs in professional occupations outside their homes – “the breadwinner class”* most likely due to job security concerns following oil busts throughout much of our region over many years†.*
There is no one definitive history of the AR-15, a rifle which has seen service in many different countries over the years. The rifle was designed in 1976 by Eugene Stoner, an American firearms engineer who also designed the M1911 pistol and other firearms. The AR-15 saw its first production in 1978 and began appearing on military rifles across the globe soon after. It was not until 2003 that it became available to civilians as well, making it one of the most widely used firearms in the world. The origins of the AR-15 can be traced back to early 1970s when a team led by then–Marquette University professor John Tilton came up with a design for a new type of infantry weapon which would allow soldiers to carry more ammunition with them while on operations. The project was ultimately cancelled but Tilton continued to work on his ideas, eventually developing what would become known as the AR-15 rifle. In 1984, Stoner met with then–Senator Joseph Lieberman (I) about potential legislation concerning firearms and gun control; this meeting resulted in passage of the National Firearms Act (NFA). This law regulated firearm sales and possession within America and made it illegal for individuals to own or use any automatic assault rifles without having prior approval from local police departments. While Ar-15s continued to be produced by Colt under contract through 1987, production ceased altogether after United States manufacturer Remington agreed to government quotas set forth in NFA regulations. This led to some lawsuits between Colt and Remington, but these disputes ultimately ended without any significant legal repercussion. By 1990, however, barrel rifling had been perfected so that all future Ar-15 models could feature this type of rifling - effectively making those models obsolete at that point. In 1994 alone, around 2 million AR-15 rifles were manufactured globally; during this time period machine guns such as AK47s and M1 Garands were also becoming increasingly popular among terrorist groups due to their ease of maintenance and low cost compared to other types of firearms. The town was named for Captain John Deridder and his family who settled there in 1822. The first store in Deridder opened in 1827. In 1899, the community had a population of 1,500 and was served by a post office that operated from 1829 to 1903. A cotton gin was built on the south side of the current courthouse square in 1892. A local school district was organized in 1907 andDeridder became an incorporated village in 1912 with a population of 375 residents. A two-story brick high school building was dedicated on October 26, 1925; it has been used as both a municipal hall and public library since then. The collapse of the dam which supplied electricity to Deridder during World War II caused economic hardship for many residents; however, most have recovered since then. There are now several businesses located within walking distance of all but one of Deridder's five central streets ( Main Street ). In addition to its core retail economy based around small stores and service companies catering to locals and tourists alike, Deridder also has an active agricultural sector that includes corn ethanol production capacity from cobs grown on donated land near Paducah Airport .

During the Great Depression derided economic conditions led to significant decreases in population and business activity until 1938 when a new housing development began to grow in downtown Deridder which revitalized downtown businesses and revived local economies
