Denham Springs is a small town in northwestern Louisiana. It was founded by English colonists in 1804 as the site of a trading post on the Red River. The community grew rapidly after the 1810 purchase of land by General Andrew Jackson, and by 1821 it had reached its present size. In 1834, Denham Springs became the capital of Louisiana. The town has since undergone a number of changes, most notably during the French period (1699-1802) when it was known as St. Denis de la Garenne. After the end of that era, Denham Springs reverted to English culture and became known as Denham Hall until 1840 when it changed again to Denham Springs under New Orleans rule. Today, Denham Springs retains much of its early Dutch Colonial Revival architecture with many locally quarried limestone blocks still used in its construction. Many local businesses remain open including two banks and one grocery store which were all built before 1925.

Denham Springs is a small town in the parish of Jefferson in Louisiana. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shreveport-Bossier City, LA metropolitan area. Denham Springs is located on State Highway 173 about 20 miles west of Baton Rouge and 40 miles east of New Orleans. The first settler in Denham Springs was John Crouch who arrived in 1802. In 1830, James Fenton founded a post office in what is now known as Denham Springs. By 1840, there were six settlers living here including George Beaumont and his wife Nancy Beaumont who ran a general store and blacksmith shop.In 1851, Jno Hatton established a sawmill which still stands today producing oak lumber and other wood products In 1871, Wm Poynter established a grocery store and bakery with two stores and four homes which he named "Pitkin's". A post office was established here in 1881 which served the community until 1905 when it moved to Thibodaux On November 8th 1904 Denham Springs had its first election as an incorporated village with five trustees: one for each ward (north; south; east; west). On December 3rd 1906 the village acquired separate police powers from neighboring Thibodaux after residents there failed to ratify an ordinance appropriating that power to their village In 1923, Jno Aspinwall purchased 4 acres north of the current day intersection of US 173 & SH 146 for $825 from Drury Sayers heirs In 1927 he donated another 2 acres onshore to become what is now known as Aspinwall Park Extension . This tract includes much of what remains today of Aspinwall's original home property . Today this 2 acre parcel houses both schools within Denham Spring Village limits
