The first post office in Denham Springs was established in 1837. In 1860, Denham Springs became the county seat of Jefferson Parish. In 1980, it reverted to its original name of "Denham Springs". The local cotton gin and spinning mill were both destroyed by fire on May 8, 1886; however, the debris from the mills remain standing as symbols of Denham Springs' industrial past. In recent years, DENHAM SPRINGS has seen an increase in its community involvement with music and art events including Folk Festival on July 4th & 5th each year as well as golf tournaments on different days throughout the summertime.
