It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Denham Springs post office was established on July 1, 1827, and remained in operation until it closed on December 15, 1893. The first settler in Denham Springs likely named Captain John Denham after his home county of Buckinghamshire in England. Captains John and James Denham were brothers who immigrated to America in 1799 and 1800 respectively. They founded a trading post called "New Orleans" on the banks of the Mississippi River opposite Baton Rouge. In 1824 they sold their business interests and moved to what is now known as Denham Springs where they resided for the rest of their lives. They are buried at Bellefontaine Cemetery near New Orleans. During Reconstruction (1865-1877), many African Americans migrated to Denham Springs from Louisiana's then segregated south for work as sharecroppers or laborers on land owned by white landowners who refused to allow them to own property or vote. Some black men worked as tailors, carpenters, masons and other skilled tradesmen throughout what is now Jefferson Parish; however most black men worked primarily as agricultural labourers working alongside whites in picking cotton and other crops; this relationship changed when Union troops burned down most all of southern plantation owners' businesses during the American Civil War (1861-1865). The population of Springville-Denham Springs has since grown to more than 10,000 people. The history of the town is replete with memorable moments; some include its incorporation as an unincorporated community in 1957 and its designation as one of Louisiana's " Historic Places." One such event that occurred during this time period was the dedication ceremony for the new DenHAM high school which opened in 1959. also during this time period, local businesses participated in a boycott campaign against segregated schools within New Orleans due to racial tension at that time

The Denham Springs community was founded in 1881 by Major General George H. Denham and his wife, Nannie. The town grew quickly due to its location near the Louisiana Railroad and Courier lines. By 1911, the population had reached 2,500 people and the town was named after General Denham. In 1935, the Denham Springs School District was formed and the population of the town decreased to 1,000 people until it peaked at 2,500 people in 2006. The decline in population has led to a decrease in business activity and a decrease in real estate values within the community.
