The post office was established in 1857 and served denham until 1984 when it was moved to its current location adjacent to New Iberia Elementary School. In 1927,denham had its first electric light pole and water system installed by George Stephenson who also donated $5,000 for the project. By 1935, most of the essential infrastructure had been installed including a schoolhouse- gymnasium- cemetery- library- playground- telephone company connection - all without tax money fromDenham Springs residents! In 1965, Denham Springs annexed neighboring towns of White Sands Beach and Clearwater Beach making it one small municipality with a population of 2,500 people . The war also led to increased immigration into Denham Springs from all over southern Louisiana; by 1951, the city's population had risen to more than 10,000 people. But despite these advances in technology and industry, denHAM SPRINGS has never quite caught up with other counterparts in terms of quality of life or cultural significance within southeastern Louisiana - until now!
