Crowley, Louisiana is a small town located in the parish of Crowley, La. The population was 3,359 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shreveport-Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Crowley was ジョン・カリフォルニアナ (John Carroll) on November 16, 1793. He named it for himself and his nephew John Francis Xavier Carrol who had accompanied him on the voyage from England and then served as interpreter on board Cook's ship "Endeavor". Crowley was founded by George Washington in 1799 after he decided to move his headquarters from Alexandria, Virginia during the French and Indian War to prevent British forces from invading America. Afterward, Washington frequently visited Crowley and property here until his death in 1826. In 1802, Colonel James Wilkinson purchased some land east of present day Crowley from Captain John Rankin for $1,000 cash. Wilkinson soon became interested in this tract of land because it lay between two major rivers: the Red River and China Lake. He renamed it "Crowley" after his plantation in Georgia where he resided at that time while managing properties near Athens, Georgia along with other plantations including 'Natchez'. The town was originally built on land that belonged to the Jarratt family. In 1892, Crowley became a city and has since grown into a small community with a population of over 2,000 people. The economy of Crowley is predominately agricultural; however, some residents also work in nearby Alexandria or Baton Rouge. The history of Crowley began with its founding by General Edward Crowley in 1892. After fighting in the Mexican-American War and serving as an adviser to President Polk during the early part of his presidency (1865-1869), General Edward Crowley decided to move his family from Texas back home to Rapides Parish after they were offered property there by Governor John Sevier. General Edward's older son Lawrence took charge of ensuring that all aspects of life would be run according to local customary while James Auchinleck supervised building operations and marketing products such as cottonseed oil and eggs. Lawrence also helped found what would become known as Crescent City Bank which functioned until it closed its doors in 1932 following years of economic instability within the parish caused by natural disasters like hurricanes Katrina and Rita. After Hurricane Betsy destroyed much of downtown New Orleans on August 29th 1969 killing 96 people including many prominent business owners including Crescent City Bank's James Auchinleck, Mayor Landrieu ordered all businesses closed save for those still running on generator power due to fears that without commerce functioning any area might quickly become anarchy due to lack of control over resources common within such devastated areas postKatrina/Rita devastation throughout Louisiana; this order applied equally well outside New Orleans proper where generators had been set up but no stores reopened because necessary supplies were either destroyed or taken by looters prior to reopening hours etc.; many businesses across Orleans Parish remained closed looted even though generators continued running inside residences mostly unaware or unafraid by law enforcement officials whose job it was not simply enforce existing laws but protect citizens & protect infrastructure unlike those among looters who specifically targeted government buildings/ establishments etc.; this indicates very clearly how law enforcement failures have allowed chaos & looting instead of restoring order thereby undermining overall security/ stability which is essential prerequisite for healthy societies
