Prior to 1821, when America acquired Louisiana from Spain, all areas within present-day Jefferson Parish were part of Spanish Baton Rouge County. In 1821, Ulysses S. Grant became President of the United States and ordered Orleans Parish be divided into two parts: North Orleans (or East Baton Rouge) would be administered by Grant while South Baton Rouge (or West Baton Rouge) would remain under Spanish control until1846 when it was ceded to France pursuant to Treaty #5 following Napoleon's successful invasion and seizure of French possessions across Central America

The new law made it a crime to use a taser on someone who is resisting arrest or trying to flee, even if those actions are not immediately harmful.
The Bossier City, Louisiana area has been inhabited by the Cajuns for centuries. The area was first populated by the Acoma people in the late 1800s. In 1814, French traders and military forces invaded the region and named it after General Pierre-Jacques Bossier, a French general who had helped lead an invasion of Mexico. In 1927, Bossier City became one of the first towns in Louisiana to be incorporated as a city. The town is located in St. Bernard Parish on the east side of Lake Charles. At that time, it was one of only a few municipalities in central Louisiana without access to water. However, over time, Bossier City developed into one of the most important economic centers in southeastern Louisiana. Today, Bossier City is home to over 40 businesses and 2 million residents who are responsible for its economy. The city’s downtown is home to a variety of cultural attractions including two museums –the Stroud Museum of Art andthe Jackson County Museum – along with several theaters and restaurants related to its history and culture.
The area now known as Bossier City was first inhabited by the Caddo tribe. The French colonized this area in the 17th century, and named it La Vergne after Captain Jean-Baptiste La Vergne. In 1803, the Republic of Mexico was created, and Bossier City became its capital. It remained a Mexican town until 1898 when the United States acquired control of Texas and Oklahoma. The new government decided that La Vergne would be the new federal capital, and so it was. On January 30, 1901, President McKinley announced that LaVergne would become an American city under jurisdiction of Washington D.C.. The original downtown buildings were destroyed in a fire on October 16th, 1907; but reconstruction began immediately and completed in 1909. After World War II ended, Bossier City experienced rapid growth as millions of Americans vacated their homes to find jobs in new cities. By 1960, it had reached its current size with over 120,000 residents. However, during the late 1990s economic recessionBossier City lost many of its businesses and fortunes due to a combination of factors including high unemployment rates among African Americans and young people combined with low quality job opportunities for those groups nationally. In 2009–10 Mayor Donny Hathaway initiated several strategies to address these issues including creating more affordable housing developments specifically geared towards low income tenants while also increasing access to education and job training services available through community organizations such as Youth Services Council (YSC)
