The city's decline can be traced to multiple factors: the Panic of 1907 which caused a major recession in Louisiana; prohibition in the 1920s which led to increased crime; and World War II which destroyed much of Bossier City's infrastructure. After the war ended, the city experienced an era of stagnation and decline. Bossier City is a city in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 23,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lafayette, LA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1819 by Frenchmen who were looking for a new home after the American Revolution. The area now known as Bossier City was originally called Ville Marie, which means “City of Mary” in French. At first, the town consisted of only a few homes and a school. However, over time, the town grew and became an important center for trade and commerce in the region. In 1827, Bossier City was renamed to its present name after Baron Pierre-Jean deBossiere, one of France’s most notable leaders during the Napoleonic Wars. deBossiere had helped lead an expedition against Spanish forces at Terrebonne Bay in 1813 and had also served as governor of Louisiana from 1815 to 1817. After his death in 1840, his wife took control of the reins of affairs in their son’s absence. She continued to rule until her death in 1865. During deBossiere’s reign as governor, he developed plans for what would become Bossier City – a planned community that would be composed of single-family homes and businesses along with gardens and public squares. The city was designed to give residents easy access to business opportunities while providing them with good educational opportunities as well. He also envisioned that the city would be a center for cultural activity both within France and throughout Southeast Asia because this was then an important crossroads for trade between these regions. With these goals in mind, debosserie began work on building roads and bridges into what is now Bossier City as well as investing money into land purchases across much of Southeast Louisiana including parts of New Orleans (which he later annexed). It wasn’t until after his death that construction actually began on what would become Bossier City proper – an area that today contains over 100 buildings including many historic ones dating back to before Frenchmanhood even existed! While it may seem like today’s Bossiers are descended directly from those who lived during Baron Pierre-Jean deBossiere’s time period - there are significant differences between today's society and how things were prior to 1861 when Chartres became official capital of Louisiana !!!
