In 1872 Methodist EpiscopalChurch was organized by Reverend Loyd Purdy with services being held at various locations until it reached its current location on Main Street in 1911 (the original church building still stands). Bishop James Walsh officiated at the first Catholic Mass ever offered in Bossiers City when Saint Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church opened its doors on October 15th 1902 just east of present day I-10/US 90 junction . That same year also saw the establishment of Lafitte Manufacturing Company which manufactured cotton goods for local merchants until 1967 when it merged with Gulf States Corporation to become Gulf States Corp., now known as Mideast Trading Incorporated . In 1907 Mayor Jules Price formed an all-white civic board which oversaw many aspects of life within the fledgling city including land purchases, street cleaning and zoning changes; however due to budget cuts prices for many essential services increased which soon created tensions between black leaders and white business owners throughout BossiersCity . In 1916 Mayor Price founded Acadiana Business Men’s Club which served as a forum for business leaders from different ethnic backgrounds to exchange ideas and collaborate on common goals . At that time downtown was becoming more developed with several restaurants, banks, movie theaters and other buildings opening up along avenues such as Canal Street or Elmwood Avenue
