The city's growth led to the erection of many brick buildings, including what is now Bogalusa High School. The town became a center for cotton production following World War II and continues to be so today as an agricultural center with large plantations and smaller farms. As Bogalusa grew in importance as a commercial centre during the 2000s, its residents began to acquire some notoriety for their colorful costumes and street dances known as "bogaloosis."

Bogalusa is a small town in the parish of St. John the Baptist, Louisiana, United States. The population was 969 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Bogalusa was Father Jacques Marquette on July 4, 1608. He named it "Bogalusa" after Vincennes, in present-day Indiana. In 1714, Captain James Cook and his crew were sailing from London to Paris when they discovered America and named it after an Indian village on their voyage - which puzzled botanists because there was no tribe called "Bogalusa." In 1818, General Andrew Jackson's forces destroyed the Tennessee River banks near Bogalusa so that navigation through that part of Louisiana became difficult for traders and travelers seeking goods unavailable along the Mississippi Valley rivers. Consequently, many people left for other areas of Louisiana during those years. By 1836 all but two families remaining in Bogalusa had moved away or died trying to start anew in this newly acquired territory. Only one family remained until 1868 when they took up residence in a cabin on open ground adjacent to present day Bogalusa High School (then known as Campbell Hall). That year also saw construction of what would become Hogland Store which served as the community's commercial center until 1951 when it burned down due to arson; reconstruction began immediately and continued until 1997 when it was replaced by a new building designed by architect Drane Larson which still serves as the town hall today... Although little remains of its original architecture some remnants can be found including a large circular stairway dating back to 1800 leading from Hogland Store's upper floor dining room directly into the town square where services were offered throughout much of Acadiana during this period... There are several interesting sites associated with early life within our community including: An old blacksmith shop now used as a garage; an early cemetery where more than 50 pioneer settlers are buried including such noted pioneers as Josiah Henton (the father of modern horticulture), Levi Coffin (co-founder & First Mayor of New Orleans) & Colonel Elijah Pogue (a signer of The Declarationof Independence), among others; and also located just east Of Hogland Store off highways 82 & 527 is an approximately three acre parcel formerly belonging to Colburn Brothers Tobacco Company represented by two conspicuous brick buildings extant today: One structure once contained 12 tobacco cells each measuring 36’ x 24’ x 8’ (& fronting On Rampart Street); while another cell building measured 52' x 25' x 10', fronting Third Street.... With only 969 residents at 2000 census [today], most residents likely reflect what occurred over time with few departures or permanent moves particularly given that nearly all businesses have been closed since then save for one small grocery store currently operating via online ordering only
