Bogalusa, LA is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. It was first settled in 1835 by French colonists and their Indian allies. The town developed around two sawmills, one of which still stands today. In the 1840s, Bogalusa became an important shipping point on the Mississippi River due to its location at the mouth of the river's largest tributary, the Atchafalaya. Bogalusa experienced significant growth during the early 1800s when it became a stop on stagescoops transporting goods from New Orleans to St. Louis and other markets. The town also grew as a result of its key role in nineteenth-century cotton production. Cotton plantations were built in Bogalusa throughout this period and continue to play an important role in local economy to this day. In 1868, Bogalusa was renamed for Confederate General Robert Ewell Jackson after he won an decisive battle against Union forces at Chickamauga Mountain near Chattanooga, Tennessee. Jackson's victory helped make him one of America's most famous generals and helped solidify his reputation as a major player in the American Civil War. The town continued to grow following World War II as businesses mushroomed due to wartime demand for materials such as rubber and aluminum products. Today, Bogalusa is home to severalmajor retailers including Macy's Department Store and JCPenney Shoes Ltd.. The town has also become known for its annual Hogfest celebration which features live music and hog-related activities outdoors throughout downtown Bogalusa

It lies on the southern bank of the Mississippi River and is part of New Orleans metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1802 by French colonists as a trading post on the banks of the Bogalusa River between Lake Pontchartrain and Mobile Bay. The original name for Bogalusa was "Bogun-a-tuse". In 1815, General Andrew Jackson's army destroyed a Muslim village near present-day Bogalusa after they captured its leader, Ibrahim Jaber al-Maktoum. This event made Bogalusa one of Jackson's most symbolic victories during his presidency. In 1836, Lafayette Parish erected a courthouse on what is now Bogalusa Boulevard in honor of General James K. Polk traveling to New Orleans for an inaugural ball that year. The city Limits Act of 1840 designated Bogalusa as the seat of Jefferson Parish when it was created from parts of Lafitte and Stroud parishes following the Mexican–American War. In 1863, ConfederateGeneral Pemberton attacked Union troops at Fort Pillow east of Baton Rouge while supplies were being transported to Confederate forces across the river to meet them at Port Hudson; this event became known as Battle Of Baton Rouge because Union forces inflicted heavy losses upon Confederate positions even though they had numerical superiority numerically due to their enlistments from northern states such as Virginia and Massachusetts among others which had not seceded from the Union yet. A post office called "Bogun" was established in 1892 by Simeon Jukes with instructions to be renamed "Bogalusa" after General John Auchinleck's invasion force that destroyed much infrastructure along Interstate 10 just south of here in 1992 during Operation Neptune's Spear which aimed to dislodge Iraqi Prime Minister Hussein al-Maliki from power before he could take control over Iraq’s oil reserves which would have given him critical strategic footholds within Shi’ite controlled Iraq potentially giving him access to Syria also giving him access into Lebanon via Beirut’s Hezbollah terrorist group powerful militia) reached its peak population (10,000 residents) during World War II with peak production (coal products) 1942-1945 when local production shifted focus towards munitions manufacture due to nearby ammunition plants operated by Bofors AB located adjacent to IH10 exit 7 west side industrial area

The town's population reached 10,000 in 1920 and 25,000 by 1930. The Great Depression caused much economic decline in the town but it slowly regained its former prosperity during World War II as a major production center for munitions manufacturing. In 1952, Bogalusan citizens ratified a resolution asking their county government to establish an educational institution within the town limits - St. John's College Preparatory School - which would eventually become Tulane University . After Hurricane Katrina struck the area on August 29th 2005, many businesses were destroyed or damaged including Bogalusan's only grocery store which had been open for more than 60 years
