The history of target holders in Bogalusa, Louisiana can be traced back to the early 1800s when the area was a frontier town. Many of the early pioneers were landowners and riflemen who used their land as shooting ranges for their horses and other livestock. The first target holders were built on hills overlooking Bogalusa Creek. These structures were designed to provide a clear shot at game that roamed the locality. One of the most popular targets in pre-war Bogalusa was an elk which could be reached by crossing Bedloe Creek near present day University Blvd. In order to obtain a good picture, it is necessary to stand directly in front of the animal with its head down, making sure your hand is touching its flank just behind its horns (Fig 1). To make this shot, one needs plenty of space between oneself and either object or animal - typically around 20 yards from a deer or similar quarry. A skilled shooter could take several shots at this target without moving their location one iota; however, during wartime, it was not safe to shoot elk at range because they are considered “gunwolves” - animals that will run away if approached by human beings unnecessarily. Consequently, many families turned to using handguns instead which allowed them greater accuracy when taking aim at game close up (Fig 2). A few years after World War I ended, some new settlers moved into what is now Bogalusa from various parts of Louisiana Territory including New Orleans. One such individual was John Colburn who purchased 640 acres along Bedloe Creek in 1919 (Figs 3 & 4). Colburn set about constructing a rifle range on his property which eventually became known as Big Red Rifle Club Shooting Ground (Figs 5 & 6). At first there were only men permitted to use Big Red Rifle Club Shooting Ground; however, over time more women began joining the club and by 1935 it had become open to everyone regardless of gender(Fig 7) . In 1939Big Red Rifle Club Shooting Ground hosted its first international match where US Air Force pilots competed against each other(Fig 8) . From then until 1945Big Red Rifle Club Shooting Ground served as both ground zero for American air defense activities during World War II as well as hosting numerous local competitions such as pistol matches and skeet shoots(Figs 9-11). After hostilities ended Big Red Rifle Club Shooting Ground reverted back to its original purpose - providing a clean firing range for all members regardless of age or experience(Figs 12-14). It should be noted that although target holders have been part of our community for centuries there has never been any organized effort aimed specifically towards promoting handgun shooting contests on site - always conducted through voluntary efforts by individuals who somehow manage to find enough participants!

Bogalusa is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 9,534 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Shreveport metropolitan area. Bogalusa is the seat of Jefferson Parish government and the commercial center for the parish. The name "Bogalusa" means "bridge over bog." The first permanent European settlers in what would become Bogalusa were French colonists who arrived in 1699 as part of a larger expedition led by René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle. They built a trading post near present-day Bogalusa on the Red River and named it after François d'Iberville, one of their number. In 1720, Captain Pierre Le Moyne founded an agricultural settlement at Fort Meaux on Mobile Bayou to provide goods for L’Ouverture's colony in Africa. After La Salle's death in 1722, his lieutenant Jean Baptiste Point du Sable became responsible for Baton Rouge and its defense against French pirate attacks. On July 14, 1729, du Sable erected a small fort at present-day Bogalusa to serve as his base of operations during this period of rapid growth for Baton Rouge. In 1802 Napoleon Bonaparte installed Bourgogne as captain general of all Louisiana under command of Marshal Nicolas Plessis de la Tour d'Auvergne; therefore Bourgeois had jurisdiction over all but St Landry Parish which was ruled by Lafitte until he was finally captured and deported to New Orleans in 1803. At that time St Landry returned to Bourgeois control with territorial limits including some territory now within Bogalusa parish including parts of what are now Chalmette and Alexandria parishes east of I-10 and west side or campus Drive extending into Lafitte parish beyond the Gulf Coastatchel Marina property boundary In 1812 General Andrew Jackson moved from Nashville Tennessee to take command at Biloxi Mississippi during his campaigns against Tecumseh Ulysses Sate forces besieging Vicksburg Mississippi He issued orders that all Native American men found wearing white clothing should be shot without trial or explanation if they could not be immediately put into slavery because many were capable weapons carriers for hostile Indians rather than being mere scalps adherents to white civilization

In 1892, Major John M. Brownell developed a system called "Target Holder" which allowed shooters to hold targets at various distances with ease. The Target Holder remained in limited production until 1898 however it was later mentioned in an article about rifle range Improvements for 1903 by Edward "Eddie" Chipman which gave rise to the modern concept of shooting ranges. The first target holders were designed for rifle practice only and were made from wood or metal. These holders could be held on a stand or using a tripod mechanism. As time progressed, better materials such as plastic became available and began being used in target holders. By 1915, all wooden target holders had been replaced by metal models while plastic ones continued to be produced until the early 1940s when they all went out of production due to World War II regulations restricting their use within military establishments (Lofgren). One significant development that took place during World War II was the increase in demand for portable firing ranges across the country. This led to the development of more efficient target holder designs that could now be carried around with minimal space required. In 1946, American Rifle & Pistol Association released itssponsored report entitled "Practical Shooting Tests With Targets And Ammunition On A Portable Range", which showcased how effective portable ranges were becoming at reproducing real-life conditions on battlefields around the world (Kerr). After witnessing this effectiveness firsthand during World War II,Gunmakers started producing similar targets holder designs specifically designed for outdoor use again starting in 1949 (Powers). One of the earliest target holders was a simple stick with a round hole in it. These were used for shooting at rabbits or other small animals. The holes in these targets allowed the shooter to get close to their target and hit it. Later on, people started using bolts as Targets. A bolt is made up of two pieces, one that goes into the ground and holds the Bolt, and another that goes up into the air and is attached to a support rod. The shooter puts their hand over the top of their bolt,aims it at their desired target, pull back on the support rod, and release the Bolt. This type of holder was very inaccurate because when you released your Bolt too early or too late your Target would go off instead of staying still like an arrow should have done!
Bogalusa is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bogalusa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Bogalusa area was originally settled by Cajuns and Creoles who arrived from Acadia (now Nova Scotia) in what is now southeastern Canada. They were followed by white settlers in the 1840s and 1850s. In 1859, Bogalusa became a parish under the jurisdiction of New Orleans. In 1893, Bogalusa was incorporated as a city; it declined to reincorporate in 1906 because of problems with its water supply. In 1917, it became an official U.S. town again after having been an unofficial settlement since 1893. The first post office opened in 1892, and remained open until 1944; the last mail delivery took place on May 15 of that year. The first store was built on what is now Fourth Street between Union and Claiborne Streets; it operated from 1892 to 1896 when a new store was built on Second Avenue between Union and Claiborne Streets). In 1907, Bogalusa voters approved annexation by New Orleans due to complaints about streetcar service available through nearby Metairie; this annexation created much conflict within the community about whether or not to have another city because many residents felt they had already beenicksed by being annexed into New Orleanian territory twice already! As a result of these controversies and pressure from other cities such as Baton Rouge and Shreveport over control of metropolitan areas within Louisiana's borders (due largely to states being added to both), Bogalusa voted against annexing itself into those cities in 1912-14 before finally approving it in 1915-16 although there still continued some tension over land ownership among its citizens...It wasn't until 1952 when all but two out of thirteen original businesses closed their doors following increased competition from neighboring Metairie caused by rapid industrial growth during World War II that nativeborn residents regained some power over their own destiny."
Bogalusa was founded by French colonists in 1720. The town became a trading post and post office was established here in 1727. In 1802, the town was renamed for General James Bogalusa, who had fought in the American Revolution. The Bogalusa cotton gin began operations in 1810 and remained an important part of the local economy until it closed in the early 21st century.
