Bogalusa, Louisiana is a small town located in the eastern part of the state of Louisiana. It is bordered by Jefferson Parish to the north, East Baton Rouge Parish to the east and south, and St. Tammany Parish to the west. The population was 6,376 at the 2010 census. Bogalusa is one of two towns in Jefferson Parish that are unincorporated (the other being Thibodaux). The first residents of Bogalusa were French Canadians who came from Quebec in 1803. They built a log cabin on what is now Main Street and named it after their hometown of Boisbriand, Quebec. In 1818, John Wilkinson purchased land adjacent to Bogalusa from Pierre Parenteau for $2 per acre. He built a large white house on this property which served as his home until his death in 1838. Another early resident was Nicholas Bourgeois who arrived in 1840 with his family from Beaumont, Texas. He operated a store and tavern near present day US Highway 64 and US Highway 59A before dying in 1865 at the age of 80 years old. In 1851, Andrew Kenedy bought land northwest of Bogalusa from Parenteau for $15 per acre. This area became known as Kenedy's Prairie because it was where he developed many mills that produced flour, cottonseed oil and other materials for local commerce and export. In 1861–1862 Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Jubbney surveyed lands east of Bogalusa along both banks of Bayou Lafourche for military purposes; however he never came back to visit or buy land here because he realized its potential agricultural value only if access to water could be achieved through irrigation systems instead of natural causes such as floods or wind erosion etc.. During World War II Priscilla Phillips donated approximately 20 acres near present day US Highway 60 between Bayou Lafourche andUS Highway 98 so that United States soldiers could plant crops during their stay here during World War II while they were stationed at nearby Camp Beauregard since there was no way they could get food supplies out into surrounding parishes due to infrastructure shortages caused by war efforts throughout Louisiana Afterward much development took place around these areas including housing developments such as Baldwyn Village which opened up around 1960 just east of downtown Bogalusa (now part of Thibodaux) A major reason why this area went through rapid growth was because many businesses closed down during Hurricane Katrina when most people were evacuated/thrown out onto rooftops etc... However some new businesses have recently started up like Livewire Fitness which operates out Of The Shadows Parking Lot across from Interstate 10

The Cajun French name for Bogalusa means "belly of the river." The first Europeans to visit Bogalusa were the Spanish conquistadors in 1699. In 1719, American colonists arrived in what is now Bogalusa and founded a settlement called Possum Hollow on land that had been given to them by France as part of the Treaty of Paris following their victory over Spain in 1812. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson's army sacked Bogalusa and destroyed most of its buildings during his campaign against Native Americans known asthe Creek War. Afterward, much of what remained was used by traders and farmers until Reconstruction began in 1868. During Reconstruction, many African Americans worked as apprentices or Langstonians (free black men) at local businesses such as Ford Motor Company and Coca-Cola Bottling plant before being hired out to working class white households or simply remaining unemployed while waiting for an opportunity to return home freehold land they had purchased from previous owners or leasing from state government hands under agreements known as open territory leases. Many African Americans also migrated to Texas during this time period looking for better opportunities than those available back home in Louisiana. 2 percent of all black residents live within 5 miles (8 km) of Bogalusa city limits; however almost half (45%) lives within 10 miles (16 km). This large concentration around major transportation hubs has allowed integration into both local economic structures and social fabric with relatively little exposure to outside influences which often produces unique cultural experiences when living near large cities like New Orleans or Baton Rouge
