The history of Bogalusa, Louisiana can be traced back to the late 18th century. In 1795, a group of Frenchmen founded a trading post in what is now Bogalusa. The post was short-lived and abandoned in 1800, but it served as the starting point for several early Native American settlements in the area. In 1804, General Andrew Jackson founded Fort Jackson in present-day Bogalusa, which became an important military outpost during his War of 1812 campaign against Canada. After the war, the fort was abandoned and used as a slave market until it was destroyed by Union troops in 1865. The town of Bogalusa was born from this period of development. It first appeared on maps around 1800 and began to grow rapidly due to its strategic location and access to water resources. By 1825, Bogalusa had become an important stop on the Underground Railroad transportation system assisting fugitive slaves escape from America. Bogalusa is an Orleans Parish, Louisiana city located on the banks of the Mississippi River. The population was 38,191 at the 2010 census. The city is one of three in Orleans Parish and is part of the New Orleans metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Bogalusa were the Menard family who arrived from Ireland in 1807. They named their farm "Bogalusa." In 1821, they sold their land to Pierre de la Salle and built a small fort on it which served as his headquarters during his exploration of this part of Louisiana. In 1799, Captain John Bywater landed at Bogalusa with 219 men and supplies for General Andrew Jackson's army during the American Revolutionary War. He founded a post here called "Bywater's Fort" after himself. Afterward, he donated most of his oil revenues to Bogalusa School District #1 in order to help finance its construction (now known as Bogalusa Elementary). In 1839, Elijah Beauregard purchased 640 acres east of town from Anthony Carondelet for $2,000 cash and began developing it into what is today Bogalusa Cemetery. A year later he donated another 160 acres to become what is now known as Beauregard Park. In 1865, Confederate forces destroyed Bywater's Fort and moved onto neighboring Bonnetville plantation before eventually surrendering at Appomattox Court House on April 9th that year.

Bogalusa, Louisiana is a small town located in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana. The population was 1,816 at the 2010 census. Bogalusa is located on the north bank of the Arkansas River, about 20 miles northeast of Lafayette and 45 miles southwest of New Orleans. It is bordered by Fortuna to the east and west; and Monroe to the south. The first European settlers in what is now Bogalusa were Frenchmen who arrived in 1659. They named their new settlement after a village in India called Bogle or Boghalasa (meaning "seven villages"). The original inhabitants of Bogalusa were Native American chief Foucault's people. In 1715, Captain John Smith discovered an island near Bogalusa which he named Isla de la Tortuga because it resembled a turtle shell. The Dutch explorer Jacques Marquette later claimed this island for France on July 19, 1718 when he sailed upriver from Fort St Louis along the Mississippi River to Minnesota Territory. In 1803, General Andrew Jackson defeated Mexico at New Orleans during his campaign for president and became America's first Ulysses S Grant following his victory at Tullahoma Creek. On January 6, 1804, Jackson ordered Brigadier General James Hogg to move 10 companies of infantry from Fayetteville Barracks near Baton Rouge under command of Colonel Christopher Vann Woodward across Lafitte Bridge into Acadiana to help suppress Indian slave rebellions that had been active around Lafayette since 1800.
