Bogalusa is a small town in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,814 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Lake Charles-Bogalusa-New Iberia metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1853 by French refugees from what is now Haiti. Bogalusa was named after the Portuguese city of Bogueira on the Atlantic coast of Brazil. In 1932, it became part of Rapides Parish and then again in 1960 within Rapides Parish when Rapides County was created. The Bogalusa Industrial Development Authority was formed in 1984 to promote industrial development around the townsite of Bogalusa and its associated areas including New Iberia and Bogalusa Beach. The authority has been disbanded but its former members continue to operate various business ventures totaling more than $115 million since its inception

The most famous Street in Bogalusa is Stonington Avenue which runs parallel to Jefferson Boulevard south of downtown
The Bogalusa Plantation was a large plantation in Bogalusa Parish, Louisiana. The plantation was founded by William Davenport and his wife, Sarah. The first slaves were brought over from Africa in 1827. The Davenports owned about 220 acres of land at Bogalusa Plantation. They also had five children who continued to own the plantation until it was sold to the Rockefeller family in 1927.
