Bogalusa is a small town in the parish of St. Tammany, Louisiana, United States. The population was 3,827 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1868 by French immigrants who named it after the Boguéres mountains in central France. The city has been known for its ammunition since early nineteenth century when gunsmiths and rifle manufacturers engaged in manufacturing pistol rounds and other munitions items out of lead, brass and copper alloyed with nitrates to make them waterproof and resistant to fire. Ammunition production continued until around 1960 when all but one of the company’s factories closed down due to economic recession. In recent years some new production has resumed at two small plants which produce .22-caliber rimfire rounds as well as sporting ammo including birdshot, pellet guns, rifles and shotguns. Today Bogalusa is an important center for reloading Ammo Manufacturing because of its wide variety of projectile types available as well as its ability to recycle old projectiles that are no longer used by other companies

It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie Combined Statistical Area. The history of Bogalusa goes back to 1824 when it was settled by French and Indian soldiers under General Andrew Jackson as a post on the Mississippi River frontier. In 1840, Bogalusa became one of twenty-six villages in Orleans Parish that were chartered as Village Companies with government oversight. In 1860, Bogalusa was incorporated as a city and experienced rapid growth due to its strategic location on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad (M&O) and its access to water supplies through two bridges over the river. The city's success led to incorporation of other nearby towns including Catonville (1911), West Feliciana (1920), East Feliciana (1928), Monroe (1930), and Stroudsburg (1936). In 1990, Bogalusa was named one of "85 laid-back places" by Newsweek magazine because its relaxed lifestyle has remained unchanged for centuries despite changing economic conditions. The city's economy is largely based on agriculture which provides jobs for many local residents although some businesses have closed since Katrina hit in 2005. There are still numerous shops and restaurants open along main streets such as Market Street where farmers markets are also popular each week throughout wintertime; outdoor concerts are common during summertime; and there are several folk music festivals every year like Folkfest America or Festival du Monde de la Musique which attracts international artists from around the globe
