He ordered his unit's artillery to bombard that town for two days prior to its evacuation so as not to alert Federal forces stationed there about Confederate intentions - an event which has been called one of the most dramatic acts of Civil War terrorism In 1870, cotton ginners began crops here and development continued until around 1912 when coconut oil production became significant due to local rainfall patterns that allowed for efficient irrigation systems.
