Bastrop is a small town in the southernLouisiana panhandle. The population was 2,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of Lafayette Parish. The area that would become Bastrop was first settled by the Caddo people in the early 18th century. The Town of Bastrop was founded on December 14, 1846, by three settlers: James Hogg, John Watts and Isaac Goodnight Jr.. The early residents of Bastrop were farmers who grew crops and raised livestock. In the mid-19th century, a sawmill and grist mill were built in Bastrop. In 1875, a railroad station was built in Bastrop and the town began to grow rapidly. By 1890, there were five stores and 20 homes in Bastrop. In 1903, a post office was established in Bastop with Pte Wm Ellington as its first mail carrier. In 1918, Hurricane Moody made landfall near Baton Rouge and caused extensive damage to parts of Louisiana including much destruction to rural areas across the state. By 1922, there were 10 businesses in Bastrop with an estimated population of around 100 people. By 1930, there were 21 businesses with a population of 300 people or more. During World War II (1940-1945), many local men joined the military and worked on farms or construction projects overseas; however, most locals did not return home until after 1945 when war ended%. After V-E Day (April 9th), many veterans decided to stay in Louisiana and rebuild their lives; this led to increased interest in housing units available for sale throughout Bastrop during 1948-1950s while houses still expensively sold near interstate highways like US 90/US 95 etc.). With no major wars fought since then (the Korean War being fought mainly inside South Korea), tourism has steadily grown as an industry within Masterville adjacent Interstate 10 having been one such sector for some time now1; however it remains largely unknown outside of this particular community what makes bastropy so special other than its proximity to Interstate 10 which leads to easy access for both school students commuting into Lafayette Parish via Highway 65/I-10 which also borders St Simons Island National Wildlife Refuge making it also very popular among birdwatchers2

At its peak population in 1920, Bastrop had a population of 30,000 people; however, it has since declined significantly with the opening of Interstate 10 and other development within reach of the town.

The first settlement in what is now Bastrop Parish was made on May 5, 1837 by Colonel James K. Polk and his party while they were travelling through the area on their way to central Louisiana. They pitched a temporary camp near present-day Bastrop before moving on to make their permanent home at Bayou d'Or just east of modern-day Bastrop. During the early years of the Republic of Texas, some Texans left for Texas with General Sam Houston's army and established themselves in what became Bastrop Parish. In 1845, Angie Dickinson married John Waddle and moved from Kentucky to live in what is now Bastrop Parish with her new husband. Around this time there was also an influx of French refugees who had fled Napoleon's occupation of France during the Revolution. These refugees settled around what is now downtown Bastrop and started trade activities which helped spur development within the community over time. In 1868, Sadie Battle married Wiley Boggs and moved from Tupelo, Mississippi to live in what is today Bastrop Parish with her new husband; they would eventually have four children together: Wiley Jr., Sadie (Sharron), Willie (Winston) and Darrell (Darrell). In 1902 Hurricane Andrew destroyed much of eastern Texas so most of these original settlers returned south but many others continued living around downtown bastrop until after Katrina hit in 2005 when most everyone decided to move away again due to fear for their safety should another storm surge come ashoreidemorally or economically stricken areas like Baton Rouge or New Orleans got overwhelmed by FEMA fundsavailable only for those deemed " needy." After Katrina hit things slowly picked up as people started coming back into town as business revived and infrastructure began being built anew such as schools, health clinics and jobs that could provide stability during difficult times; however things came full circle when Hurricane Rita struck later that year causing major damage throughout northern Louisiana including parts of Bastrop parish which had not been touched since Katrina but still managed to rebuild relatively quickly thanks largely to local volunteer efforts along with state funding that allowed many more businesses options afterwards instead OfGround Zero reconstruction projects where isolated communities are given government funded assistance directly without any input from residents who want nothing to do with it because they feel it favors centralized government control over them despite claims otherwise by various politicians/council members especially former Governor Bobby Jindal who has since become President Donald Trump's top advisor on statewide issues affecting both Louisiana & Texas including Homeland Security
