Bastrop, Louisiana is the location of a number of gun targets dating back to the early 1800s. One of the earliest examples is a cannonball that was found still in its originallocation in 1812. Bastrop also has several historical rifle ranges, as well as artillery batteries that have been used for target practice over the years.
Bastrop is a small town located in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana metropolitan area. The population of Bastrop was 9,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lafayette-Baton Rouge-New Iberia, LA Combined Statistical Area. The first inhabitants of what is now Bastrop were Native Americans who hunted and gathered food near the present day intersection of US 71/US 90 and FM 727. In 1812, General Andrew Jackson's army moved through this region on their way to New Orleans and encountered these same Native Americans while passing through. After capturing two chiefs who were leading these Indians' children into captivity, Jackson ordered them all killed. This event made Bastrop one of the earliest settlements in the area. A post office was established in 1828, and by 1840 it had become an incorporated town with a population of around 150 people. Growth continued until 1858 when a tornado destroyed much of downtown Bastrop including most of the courthouse and jail which had been built that year; only minor damage was done to other buildings inside or outside the town limits. In 1861–1862 there was some fighting in nearby Alexandria about Confederate forces occupying Jefferson Davis' home there; during this time several businesses within town were also damaged or destroyed by artillery fire from Confederate positions across US 90 yards away from where they sat. In 1865 Union soldiers burned down many local homes as part of an assault on Mobile Bayou duringOperation Crossroads before withdrawing eastward overland to safety just before Christmas that year; according to some accounts as many as 100 homes were destroyed total throughout southeastern Louisiana during those three weeks alone (the Battle for Mobile Bayou). Following Reconstruction began in America following VE Day on November 8th, 1919 - almost 50 years after federal troops liberated southeastern Louisiana - Bastrop became an unincorporated community once again effective January 1st 1920 with a population under 1000 residents (although some recent estimates put its size at closer to 2500). Businesses reopened following World War II followed by rapid growth thereafter culminating in 2000 when its current population exceed 5000 residents once again thanks largely to Texas Tech University's open-air research reactor project Legrande Station located just northward of town on TP&H land known then as "Farmington". However growth has slowed recently due mostly to heavy traffic noise generated by university researchers conducting their experiments offshore (albeit without any negative environmental impact), limited access due mainly to unsuitable soils for farming close at hand as well as competition from neighboring towns seeking jobs related to industry created since energy development increased along US 71 corridor westward since early 1990s concurrent with major economic expansions across Lafayette/Baton Rouge regions especially since oil & gas exploration & production activities have greatly expanded along Interstate 10 corridor connecting eastern Baton Rouge & southwestern Shreveport

Bastrop, Louisiana is located in the southern United States and is one of the most historically diverse and culturally rich cities in the country. The city was chartered on December 1, 1836 by John C. Calhoun as a town within the territory of Louisiana. It became an incorporated city on January 6, 1848. Bastrop was named after General James P. Bastrop who led American forces during the Mexican-American War and also served as a U.S Congressman from Texas. The population of Bastrop increased rapidly due to its location across the Iuka River from Mobile, Alabama; its access to railroads; and its agricultural production which included cotton, hay, pigs, chickens and corn. The first Baptist church in America was built in Bastrop in 1837. In 1865, A&P Railroad donated land for a railroad station in Bastrop which later became known as "The bastrop landing." The town's population grew rapidly due to oil exploration operations conducted by Standard Oil Company (now ExxonMobil) along Iuka River near present-day Bastrop City limits beginning in 1907. This growth helped spur economic development throughout much of North Texas including Bastrop County which saw rapid population growth during this time period; however, even with all these benefits came some challenges such as pollution problems that plagued the area until relatively recently
Bastrop is a town located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 7,874 at the 2010 census. Bastrop was founded in 1813 by Captain James K. Polk and his wife Anna Maria Ruskiewicz as a post office on the banks of the Red River. It was named for General Andrew Jackson's brother-in-law, Lieutenant Colonel Robert E. Lee of Virginia, who fought with Jackson in the Battle of New Orleans during the American Civil War.
