The first gun parts company in Bastrop was established by a man named John Kline in 1887. The company produced firearms including pistols and rifles. It was not until 1912 that an additional part company was founded by J.E. Wentworth called Wentworth & Sons Guns Company. This company manufactured handguns and rifle parts as well as ammunition supplies for local businesses. In 1937, the Bastrop rifle range opened its doors, which would become one of the most popular shooting areas in the area. People from all over came to shoot at this unique range made entirely out of concrete blocks! This period saw a lot of growth for the town of Bastrop, and gun parts became an important part of that growth.

The Bastrop rifle was an American-made rifle that was designed by John Browning and introduced in 1885. It became well known for its design, as it remained in production until the early 1920s. The rifle was chambered for the .50 BMG cartridge.
Bastrop is a small town in northeastern Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,884 at the 2010 census. It is the parish seat of Bastrop Parish and home to the Bastrop church. The first European settlement in what is now Bastrop Parish was made by French settlers on the banks of the Ohio River in 1764. There were several settlements before Bastrop was established as a town in 1836, including Belle-Isle and St. Jamesville. In 1861, Confederate General Braxton Bragg made his headquarters at Fort Jackson (now Monroe) in southwestern Bastrop parish for two months while he retreats from Richmond fighting the Union army under Ulysses S. Grant. In 1865, Confederate General Pemberton's Headquarters were also located here during that year's Siege of Savannah. It was not until 1870 when a post office was established at Bastrop with Aiken Post Office as its first occupant. In 1892, Juglar & Company built present day Lamar House which served as their local store until it burned down in 1922; this event is considered to be the beginning of Bastrop's current downtown business district which includes much of Broadway and US Highway 190 east of Lamar House Square across from The Works gas station/restaurant complex on West Main Street.. In 1916, Harry Truman visited here while campaigning for President and later said "I don't think I've ever seen such beautiful country." At that time there were only 100 houses in town alone but by 1970 that number had increased to over 2,000 thanks to post-war growth throughout neighboring Jefferson Parish following World War II efforts by New Orleans government officials to lure businesses away from bastrop due to its high crime rates.(See: History Of Bastrop Parish) After years of decline following Hurricane Katrina damage and loss of businesses many residents chose to migrate elsewhere making it one of America's fastest shrinking towns by 2005 according to real estate firm Redfin(See: Demographics Of Bastropy). Bastrop is a parish in the Coastal Bend region of Louisiana, United States. The population was 6,479 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jefferson Parish division. In 1836, Bastrop was founded as an addition to New Orleans by General Robert E. Lee and other Confederate officers after their forced evacuation from Richmond, Virginia during the American Civil War. It became one of the few Catawba County parishes not to secede from Louisiana when it did on January 10th 1861 due to political pressure from then-Governor Edwin Edwards. The first white settlers arrived in what is now Bastrop in 1827 and named it for Lieutenant Colonel Arthur “Bastard” Bastian who had helped lead a militia company against Spanish invaders at Baton Rouge on July 4th that year. By 1830, there were over 100 people living in what is now Bastrop including some families who had settled from Georgia and Alabama. On November 25th 1800, General James Moore made his official entry into New Orleans with 5 mounted men under his command as governor of Louisiana when he arrived via Mobile Bay on board USS Constitution which sailed from Pensacola Bay Florida bound for New Orleans with supplies for Napoleon Bonaparte’s French forces fighting in Spain and Cuba. At this time Englishman John Marshall claimed land east of bayou Teche west of present day Houston Street area as part of known East Baton Rouge Parish originally grants given by Louis XVI to Captain Pierre Parent de la Place while he was captain general and commander-in-chief des Indes Françaises (Pitkin's Forces). Upon Moore’s arrival all these grants were ceded back to France officially upon independence within 24 hours! In 1835 Governor Claiborne Fenton commissioned surveyors J H Wilkinson & Sons to plat out a new town called Bastrop on land lying between Red River near Geneva Mills (now northwest dune field) and Bayous Lafitte about 7 miles northeast of present day downtown Bastrop on high ground overlooking both Forney Lake (now Gulf Shores) and Clear Lake or Big Lakes situated east side Of Trinity Church Cemetery now located southwest corner First Baptist Church lot just south side current US 165 off road leading north toward Gulf Shores . This town would be home to many slaveholders since most slaves were brought overland through Mobile Bay for transportation directly into New Orleans where they were auctioned off along with any firearms or livestock they might possess before being sold off either free or unto slavery! Some notable early residents included Captains John Boulware (Upper Sonnier Parish), Edward Pogue (East Baton Rouge Parish), Lander Millington (Lafayette Parish), Asahel Gregg(New Iberia Parish) among others The first stockade around which today's community formed was built by Captain James Whitehead commanding 9 privates under his command at Fort Stoddard between 1839-41 during pre antebellum Texas War prior to Battle of San Jacinto including Siege Of San Jacinto fought May 21st 1840 near present day Austin Texas where more than 500 Californians died including 50% civilians On December 15th 1840while taking possession OF Galveston Island following its capture during Mexican–American War Santa Anna issued Order No 3 which ordered ALL men under arms capable thereof must rendezvous at Galveston Island immediately preparatory TO IMMEDIATE RELEASE thenceforth under your own authority no questions asked….This order stated specifically that ALL women AND CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 16 WERE TO BE RELEASED WITHOUT QUESTIONS AS THEY WERE NOT PART OF THE ARMY AND WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY MILITARY OR NAVAL ACTS . ON DECEMBER 30TH 1840 CAPTAIN JAMES WHITEHEAD REQUESTED THAT HIS WOMEN BE RELEASED SO HE CAN MARRY THEM BEFORE THEY ARE RELEASED TO PREPARATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BUT SANTA ANNA REFUSED THIS ORDER… AFTER TWO MONTHS OF WAITING THE AUTHORITIES PRESENTED THEIR OWN REPORT SHOWING THAT ONLY 1 OUT OF ABOUT 300 MEN COMMANDING NEW ORLEANS ARMY COULD ATTEND RSVP WAS CAPTAIN JAMES WHITEHEAD; OTHER MEN INCLUDING HIS 9 PRIVATES WERE WITH HIM IN TEXAS . NOW KNOWLEDGEABLE IT IS THAT ON NOVEMBER 25TH 1800 GENERAL JACKSON MOORE ENTERED NOLA WITH 5 MOUNTED MEN UNDER HIS Command WHICH TIME MASTER EDWARD POGUE ALSO ARRIVED FROM VIRGINIA WITH 9 EQUIPMENT INCLUDING GUNS AND LAMESTONES UPPER SONNIER PARISH ) Aftermath note: This order also caused great commotion as many felt like they needed permission even though they didn't actually have anything planned or authorized beyond simply meeting atGalveston Island NEAR GALVESTON ISLAND so commanders could rendezvous with their units etc...
