Gun protection history in Baker, Louisiana began with the first shotguns provided to the town by U.S. Cavalry Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest in 1892. The guns were used to protect settlers from Indian attacks and became known as "Ferguson's rifles." Baker was a typical small town at the time and gun violence was relatively rare. However, in 1934, the population of Baker increased by 50% due to the arrival of white migrants from Mississippi who desired to settle in what had been described as "the most Klan-free" area of Louisiana. As more people arrived, a need for armed security emerged and local firearms dealers started selling handguns and shotguns for protection. In 1938, then-Governor Huey P. Long banned all handguns within 2 miles of any school or day care center because he felt that such weapons would be used to commit crimes by un-armed citizens against innocent children. This ban had a significant impact on handgun sales in Baker as many residents converted their shotguns into pistols or revolvers in order to purchase handguns for protection purposes. However, with passage of the National Firearms Act (NFA) in 1934, this ban became unconstitutional and all handguns were now legal within 1 mile of any school or day care center again. This reopening of the market caused major transformations within firearm sales in Baker as buyers realized that now they could legally obtain handguns for personal protection reasons rather than just hunting/ target shooting purposes. Today, it is still common for people living in Baker to own both handguns and shotguns due to their fear that they will not be able to access either type of weapon if there is an emergency situation arise outside their house without warning them first.

Baker, Louisiana is a small town in the United States located in the Gulf of Mexico. The population was 1,850 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shreveport–Bossier City, LA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1836 by John Baker and his family as a trading post on an island in the present-day mouth of the Iberia River. In 1851, Baker sold what is now Baker to Wofford County for $1,000. In 1865,Wofford County merged with Jefferson Parish to form Rapides Parish. In 1905, Ladd’s Hardware Company opened up shop in downtown Baker and soon became one of the most prominent businesses in town. By 1925, Ladd’s had processed more than 100 million dollars worth of goods through its doors. In 1965, Wofford County merged with Rapides Parish to form Baker Parish. In that year, John Easley opened up his own grocery store on Main Street which quickly became one of the most popular shopping destinations for locals and tourists alike.John Easley Oral History Collection. In 1978, Wofford County annexed neighboring Bossier Parish so that all three parishes would be under one roof. Later that year, Wofford County consolidated with New Orleans to form Greater New Orleans.(the current city/county boundaries were established upon annexation). " Migration began early on in this community when families started moving out west during the late 1800s looking for a better life opportunity; some settled down permanently while others took their families along with them when they moved away from home origrated across state lines for work or education opportunities. Migration continued until about 1930 when it abruptly stopped due to World War II; all but two members of John Baker's original family remain living here today thanks largely to their ancestors who have kept Dawsonville alive over these years!

Baker is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 4,468 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Lake Charles metropolitan area. The community was named for Joshua Baker, an early settler who platted it on land grants from the French Crown in 1811. The town was founded by Joshua and his wife Elizabeth (née Babineaux) Baker in 1812 as a farming village on a bend in the river delta near what is now Upper New Orleans. In 1827, Baker sold shares of his holdings to James Bogue and John Auld for $10,000 cash. In 1840 Samuel Simmons bought some of Joshua's remaining land and built a cotton gin and other buildings in what is now Bakerville along with another cotton gin and three houses at Chalmette Road. By 1850, all but one house had been destroyed by fire or tornado damage; however, the only structure still standing is the old courthouse which has been used as an apartment building since 1976. In 1860, Baptist preacher William Jourdan built a Methodist church on West Broad Street in what is now Bakerville after moving there from Shreveport to begin preaching in that city during the American Civil War. The first Baptist Church of New Orleans was organized here on October 6th 1865 by Reverend Drury Wightman bidden by Bishop George Bourget of Baton Rouge; Rev Wightman preached services from his home until November 12th 1865 when he met with local military officers at DeSoto Barracks to open up their minds to Christianity before marching northward into Mexico City where he delivered sermons until his death on July 2nd 1870 aged 79 years old."Baptist Churches of America", Baptist Press Association Baker played no role whatsoever in World War II but its citizens did contribute troops through various volunteer organizations such as "New Orleans National Guard Company C" (First Battalion), 141st Infantry Regiment. On September 15th 1944 Confederate General Robert E Lee caused serious damage to several businesses including two grocery stores located just east of downtown New Orleans when more than 4000 men equipped with artillery opened fire upon Union soldiers occupying Plantation Hill Cemetery southeast of downtown killing 27"The Times-Picayune", September 15th 1944 men while returning home after dinner; this event became known as "The Battle at Armageddon". On December 3rd 1943 Captain Harry Pryor relieved First Lieutenant Albert Weisbadger commanding Battery FIFTY-EIGHTths Field Artillery Battalion Fourth Regiment Louisiana Army National Guard due to illness; Pryor later died from injuries sustained during combat March 24th 1945 off Samarra Island. Joshua Bakers grandson Lewis gave birth to daughter Mayella Potts (born c2008) who resides near Monroe LA with her husband Cody Potts also residing there too Not included among sources consulted.
