Alexandria is a city in the United States. It is the seat of Louisiana's congressional district and is also the home of The National Museum of American History. The city was founded by Frenchmen in 1764 as a trading post on the Iberian River. In 1803, it became part of Mexico City and was renamed to its current name, Alexandria, in honor of Prince Alexander Alexeyevich Alexandrovich de Russians Arkhangelsk-Amur Krai (1802-1884). In 1836, Alexandria became an incorporated town and began to grow rapidly due to its location on the Vermilion River between Mobile Bay and Baton Rouge. By 1840, it had over 100 businesses and 300 residents. On December 1, 1841, Alexandria incorporation was accepted by the state legislature and became a city with separate police forces. The first mayor was John Waddell and the first councilors were James Fenton (Theodore Roosevelt's father), John Pendergast, A.J. Dillon (the future Governor of Louisiana), Mazzie McLoughlin (widow of John Pendergast), Ebenezer Cobbett (a Scottish born lawyer who came to America in 1792) and Nicholas Applegate (the son-in-law of Nicholas Applegate). The late 1800s saw increased violence in Alexandria as cotton plantations were developed throughout southwestern Louisiana. In 1901–1902 an outbreak of cholera caused massive death and destruction across much of New Orleans; however, few people died in Alexandria because there was no significant population growth during this time period there either. It is located on the Mississippi River about north of Baton Rouge. The first people to live in what is now Alexandria were the Iberian colonists who arrived in 1804. They founded a trading post on an island in the river and named it "New Orleans." In 1821, New Orleans was moved to its present location across from Baton Rouge by General James K. Polk after he won the Ulysses S. Grant victory over Andrew Johnson's forces at Vicksburg. The original town site lay along one side of the river near modern-day downtown Baton Rouge and had a population of 100 persons; however, it lost its status as a town when New Orleans became part of Jackson Parish and Alexandria became part of Jefferson Parish because it was included within what are now Monroe and East Jefferson counties when they were created in 1890. In 1862, Confederate General Pte John Buford ordered his artillery to bombard Union positions around Alexandria during their battle for control of that city during the Siege of Vicksburg which ended with Union defeat at Champion Hills two weeks later.news report says that most likely this event increased support for Union forces among African Americans living within easy reach of Confederate lines throughout northern Louisiana who had been drought-stricken since late May 1861

Polk announced that he had ended the American Revolution by annexing Acadia (New Brunswick) into the United States as part of the Treaty of Paris which defined modern-day Louisiana. This event occurred during President James K. Polk's term as president from 1849 to 1853. The city of Alexandria was founded on December 12, 1888 by J.C. Littlefield and Wm Hickey as a trading post between New Orleans and Mobile Bayou near present day Interstate 10 across from downtown New Orleans. A cotton gin was built in 1889 along with a sawmill and two homes for workers called "Hickey House" and "Littlefield House." The market town gradually became an agricultural center due to its location near points of export for sugar cane, cotton, cornmeal and other crops growing along bayous throughout southeastern Louisiana including areas such as Houma; Rapides; Jefferson; Plaquemines; St Tammany; Cerritos; Lafourche; Tensas River Valley Railroad Company towns like West Monroe;; Thibodaux;; Natchitoches;; Cameron & Crockett counties lying east of Baton Rouge limits served by various steamboats running down bayous to main stream ports providing transportation for goods coming out of these locales which included New Orleans via Canal Street or Old Port then upriver to Natchez where it would be loaded onto riverboats for shipment downstream
