In 1948, ANSA standardized the use of goggles as SPDs and by 1959, all shooters were required to wear them at all times while shooting any rifle or shotgun outside of sanctioned matches or contests. However, we can credit Sgt Major Stanislaus "Doc" Riddle with being instrumental in starting pistol competition within St Matthews Police Department which later led to other departments adopting similar concepts such as trap shoot events where officers compete against each other using pistols only. St. Matthews, Kentucky has been a part of the United States for over three centuries. It was founded by Welsh immigrants in 1775 as a small town on the Holmes River. The town grew and developed until it became an important coal-mining center in the late 19th century. In 1916, St. Matthews became a national city after it was annexed by Cincinnati, Ohio. The city experienced growth during World War II as many local businesses produced goods needed to support the war effort. The post-war period saw some decline and lost jobs during the early 21st century, but overall St. Matthews has enjoyed significant growth and progress since its incorporation into the Cincinnati metropolitan area in 1996.
In 1792, a group of landowning families in St. Matthews decided to form a town and named it after their patron saint, Saint Matthews. The first structure built in the town was a log cabin. In 1812, the town received its charter from the Kentucky General Assembly and began to grow. By 1817, there were five buildings in the community: a small school, a store, a blacksmith shop, and a church. In 1830, the community had 11 buildings: four houses and three stores. The population of St. Matthews reached 350 by 1840 but declined over the next decade due to disease and an economic recession. However, by 1850, there were only 24 people living in St. Matthews and it had shrunk to just 10 buildings with no public services available. However, in 1859-60 when Union troops arrived in St. Matthews during the American Civil War to help protect nearby Louisville from Confederate forces Operating out of Bardstown Junction on KY Route 49E (present day US 65), this small town came alive as citizens exchanged goods and services with their allies on Cinque Terre Gap Road for supplies including food and ammunition needed for the war effort - something that has never been repeated elsewhere throughout history! The population of St. Matthews eventually rebounded after Reconstruction ended following America's Civil War; however it would not regain its heyday until after World War II when new development occurred around downtown which led to more growth across all fronts... until today!
