The last time a major manufacturer operated in Somerset was Dickerson Manufacturing Company which ceased production in 1984 because it could not compete with cheaper imports from abroad. Somerset is a small town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Pike County. The first settler in Somerset was James Hance in 1814. The town was named for Isaac Somerset, 3rd Baron Somersetshire (1767-1837), a Tory Member of Parliament who served as Secretary at War from 1805 to 1807 and Deputy Lieutenant of Ireland from 1810 to 1813. In 1840, the 2nd Baron Somersetshire transferred his ownership of several thousand acres (100 km2) around Somerset to the Commonwealth of Kentucky for development as an agricultural county. According to the 2000 census, there were 1,521 people living in Somerset when it was annexed by Lexington on February 14, 1907; this number had grown to 2,045 by 2007. The population has since decreased modestly over time due largely to Interstate 75 running through town and births outside the limits of I-75zx; however some new residents have moved into various parts of town since then due to strong growth potential within its boundaries due to its location near Lexington Lowlands Medical Campus and other nearby hospitals and businesses. Today's economy is based primarily on agriculture with a few light industry jobs present here and there; but with rapid expansion plans underway for new medical offices and other businesses located in surrounding towns such as Frankfort Junction now that I-75zxd is being improved more regularly it seems likely that this will only continue to grow until all or most neighboring towns become similarly reliant upon I-75zx traffic exclusively for economic reasons - making Bridgewater one possible candidate for incorporation into what would be then become quite large Somerset proper - although such annexation would not come about lightly given Lexington's stronghold status within Pike County government!

Somerset, Kentucky is a town in Logan County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 4,444 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Logan County. Somerset was founded in 1811 by James Robertson and named for John Somerset, 1st Earl of Bath. The first white settler in Somerset was David Hardin who arrived in 1814. He built a log cabin on the side of a mountain and named it after himself, Hardin's Valley. In 1830 hardin married Anna Belle Jackson and moved to what is now called "Jenny's Hill" which he homesteaded on the side of Jenny Gap Creek where he raised corn and cattle until 1840 when he sold his land to J H Beckham Jr.. After Beckham bought the hill there were many house buildings erected starting with one in 1854 by John Laddan according to an article from The London Gazette dated October 25th that year written by W T Gartland about early settlement in Logan County In 1850s two brothers named Jameson purchased various tracts of land around present day Somerset including Jenny Gap creek area which they renamed "Jenny's Hill". They also began farming salt pork (rendered pork) on these properties for their own consumption as well as selling it to others. In 1865 Jameson passed away leaving his brother Johnson behind with much land still unclaimed however this did not last long as Johnson died intestate within a few months leaving most of his property up for sale once again including Jenny Gap creek area which became known as "Jenny's Hill Park". This parcel of land remains today as part of the town limits between Somerset and Jessamine Counties though development has taken place on portions thereof over time. A post office called Somersett was established in 1811 under government grant No # 5683 from President George Washington The first store opened in 1888 and continued operating until 1969 when it closed due to lack of customers along with several other stores throughout the years primarily because coal prices dropped during World War II making manufacturing difficult or impossible without special permitsprioritizing war production over family tradition . Today only one building remaining standing from those days that served local residents grocery shopping included a large meat market still open today
The area that is now Somerset, Kentucky was part of the Ohio Valley region. The first European to reach this area was Captain John Smith in 1714. He named the area for the county he discovered, Somerset County. The first settlers were small groups of men and women who arrived in what is now Somerset in the early 1800s. By 1812, there were over 20 families living in what is now Somerset County. In 1817, a land grant was given to Colonel John Campbell by President James K. Polk. This grant allowed Campbell to purchase 640 acres of land from James Finnigan and others. The township of Somerset was formed on May 1, 1820, when a group of men organized by Colonel John Campbell purchased 2/3 of a mile radius from the center of town square at $10 per acre lot. On November 3rd, 1830, another group organized by Colonel John Campbell bought 1/3 of an acre from Samuel Miller for $5 per acre lot. The Township Committee voted to name their new township after General Washington Battle Creek which flows through his farmstead near present-day Cumberland Gap National Park
