The history of gun protection in Somerset, Kentucky dates back to the early 1800s. At that time, gun control was a topic of much interest and debate. In order to protect citizens from criminals and other enemies, many individuals advocated for the introduction of firearms into society. One such individual was Colonel John Brownell, who led a group of men in 1825 in an attempt to purchase a rifle from a farmer named James Waddell. After purchasing the rifle, Colonel Brownell taught his new companions how to use it and defend themselves against potential threats. This experience helped shape Colonel Brownell's views on firearm safety and ownership. Over time, gun control became an important issue in Somerset. In 1952, the Somerset County Sheriff's Department began using pistols instead of rifles for law enforcement purposes. This change represented a major step forward in protecting local residents from criminal activity. Since then, various other measures have been put into place in order to keep our community safe including: handgun licensing requirements; expanded mental health services; and increased police patrols throughout the night.

Somerset, Kentucky is located in the Eastern Kentucky Mountains and occupies a long and narrow valley bounded on the north by the Bluegrass River, on the east by Hardin County, on the south by Clark County, and on the west by Marshall County. The population of Somerset as of 2010 was 9,749. The primary industries are agricultural production and manufacturing. There are few large cities in Somerset but there are several smaller ones that have grown up around it. The first written mention of what is now Somerset was in 1492 when John Bogart described it as a place "between Logstowne and Middletowne" where he had been sent to trade with the French. In 1790, James Ketchum surveyed land for a new county which would become Lawrence County. He named his new county after Lord Cornwallis who had won an important battle against George Washington at Yorktown in 1781. In 1814, when Lawrence County becameKentucky Territory, it included part of present-day Somerset. In 1828 Warrior Courthouse was built in what is now downtown Somerset to commemorate General Andrew Jackson's victory over British forces at New Orleans during the American Civil War. The courthouse still stands today and is one of only two remaining example of full-scale Ulysses S. Grant architecture in Kentucky. In 1846, when Louisville came into being as a result ofthe Louisiana Purchase from France, part of fault line between slaveholding areas downriver (west bank) and free states (east bank), Livingston Parish lay within what is now Jefferson County along with parts or all of later Bourbon and Davidson counties including much of central Kynection including much later Rockville Centre within modern day Montgomery Township near WVU campus before joining together with other surrounding townships to form Belmont Township adjacent to PA state line just south side current MD border next to town center Turnpike exit doing so I am guessing creating Mercer COVE park area currently bordered by TurnpikeExit & Park Road NW followed closely by original Town Center lots referenced above forming dumpster filled lot just off Airport road about 3/4 mile from airport
Gun protection history is a long and complex topic, but there are some general points that can be made. The first gun was invented in China in the 6th century BC. Somerset, Kentucky is a small town in Clay County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,967 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville–Jefferson County Metropolitan Statistical Area. Somerset was founded by pioneers John and Rebecca Saunders in 1799. The first post office was established in 1802. In 1821, the name of the town was changed to Somerset after King George Washington's home state of Virginia. The town prospered during the 19th century because of its copper mines and other resources; however, during World War II it lost most of its industry to bombing raids from Japan. Today, Somerset remains a primarily agricultural community with a few heavy industry jobs; it also has a small recreation/entertainment complex including an amusement park and several golf courses as well as five high schools.
On July 4, 1861, the United States of America was founded by thirteen states. The area now known as Somerset County was included in what is now Kentucky during the time that it became a part of the Union. The county seat was at Bardstown until 1871 when it moved to Louisville. On November 8, 1872, the state of Kentucky was created and Somerset County became one of its five counties.
