Somerset was founded in 1854 by squatters from Virginia and the area became an agricultural center due to its rich soil and proximity to railroads. In 1907, the town adopted a bluegrass music style which has continued to be popular today. Somerset's history began as a small farming community located on the banks of the Harlan River. A post office was established at Somerset in 1854, and farming remained the primary occupation until after World War II when industry took over. The current economy revolves around manufacturing and services such as trucking and transportation. The first settlers arrived in 1854 with just a few families who started out cultivating corn, beans, potatoes and tobacco on their original homesteads that still stand today. By 1907, there were over 100 residents living in Somersettown with many of them being related to one another through marriage or family ties dating back more than 150 years! At that time, bluegrass music was still considered newfangled country music which had not yet taken hold throughout much of America as it did later in other parts of the country including Nashville or Houston TX! Bluegrass pioneers like Hank Garland spent their summers playing ballads all around these rural areas before heading off to start their own businesses downtown for instance! In 2007-2008 while attempting to reopen under new ownership some interesting findings were made during surface search warrants executed by law enforcement including physical evidence (windowsills) demonstrating that although White's store closed thirty five years ago there actually existed an active business operation inside Andover Building located at 4th Street & College Avenue continuing right up through [2007] until its closure; however no one ever stepped foot inside again... This building has since been completely demolished leaving only foundations standing representing an important chapter in Andover's long history
