This event is often cited as the start of the American Revolution. Some believe that John Brown may have been born in or near present-day Somerset County. Afterward, many people moved into and around Somerset County because of its fertile soil and available water resources. Today, much of what is currently within the boundaries of Somerset County has been developed due to its location on two major rivers: the Cumberland River andthe Ohio River.
Somerset is a city in Logan County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 8,912 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Logan County. Somerset is the easternmost town in Kentucky and the only one in Logan County that lies east of Interstate 473. The first permanent settlers in what would become Somerset were three families who landed on an island near present-day Somerset on December 12, 1811. This group consisted of Daniel Boone, his brother James and their families; John Covington and family; Andrew Johnson family (John Adams), Ebenezer Richardson (George Richardson), William Overstreet (William Overstreet), Nicholas Steedman (Nicholas Steele) and six others. The original homesteads were built on land grant from President James Kenedy to Colonel Abraham Lincoln for $4,000 In 1825, 2nd Lieutenant General Samuel Jarratt purchased 1/2 mile east of present day Somerset from Thomas Easton for $1 cashier's check with no interest due until paid by privateer captain John Dickson. Captain Dickson had captured two Spanish vessels off Cuba during Fidel Castro's revolution there and brought them back to Spain as prizes which he sold to American investors for 24% commission on each sale. In 1825 Captain Dickson also purchased 1/2 mile west of present day Somerset from Major General David Hunter for $1 cashier's check with no interest due until paid by privateer captain John Fenton after capturing five Spanish vessels off Havana Bay during Mexican War era as part of inshore campaign against Mexico commanded by Commodore Perry while USS Perry anchored nearby . That same year Captain Dickson also purchased 3/4 mile south-west of present day Somerset from Elijah Hicks for $500 having caught nine small boats coming into Louisville Harbor laden with goods bound for Cincinnati via Mobile Bay two weeks earlier when US Navy vessel USS Constitution blockaded Mobile Bay preventing their passage out to sea In 1830 Colonel Asahel Dayton donated land north-east of current day Seymour along Beaver Creek which became known as Dayton Manor including 500 acres extending northwestward to form parts of modern Sandy Hook Township while 100 acres extending southwestward became known as Valley Forge Manor including today's corner lot at 6th Street between Elmwood Avenue & I-65 ersatz manor house was completed in 1836 by Revolutionary War veteran Amos Stowell who served under George Washington pioneer Isaac Norris died here before arriving in Kentucky but left behind 160 acres McCormick Place subdivision now part of downtown Seymour where he operated a gristmill home builder Donnellan constructed additions to his estate called "Norris House" still standing northeast corner 5th Street between Elmwood Ave & I-65 across From Main Street Original Norrises mill remains a fieldstone structure within City limits

Somerset, Kentucky is a small town located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Once home to a thriving coal mining industry, Somerset has seen many changes in its history. The town was first settled by European settlers in the early 1800s and became an important center for trade and commerce during the late 1800s. In recent years, Somerset has experienced growth as a bedroom community for Louisville and surrounding counties. Today, Somerset is a vibrant community with strong cultural ties to its neighboring communities. Somerset’s rich history can be found on both its people and its places. The earliest Europeans to settle in what is now Somerset were farmers who arrived in the area between 1802 and 1805. Over time, some of these pioneers constructed homes and businesses near where they lived. By 1820, however, the economic boom that had begun in nearby Louisville had ended and many residents moved out of Somerset into new homes or began trading goods with other settlements within miles of their homes. In 1916, when Kentucky became one of America’s newly created states, voters selected Somerset as the county seat for Clifton County. At that time, Clifton County consisted only of part of present-day Somerset (excluding parts of adjacent Hazardville). After several years of planning and debate among local officials, construction began on the first courthouse in rural southeastern Kentucky in 1922. This structure served as the central government center for much of eastern Clifton County until it was replaced by newer structures in 1978. The early days of post-World War II development were difficult for Somerset because most key economic arteries were connected only via dirt roads through thinly populated areas outside the town limits. However, over time this prohibition against heavy industrial development led to increased production within town limits as well as more jobs available for locals than ever before – making it one ofKentucky’s fastest growing cities throughout its history (Bennett 1989). Today's downtown business district is anchored by two major companies: Eastman Kodak Company (founded 1886) and PNC Financial Services Group ( founded 1968). Other significant employers include Southern Research Corporation (founded 1932), Monsanto Co., Inc., Belknap Stonehenge LLP (founded 1975), Armstrong World Industries Incorporated (founding 1964), First Data Corporation (founder 1984), CVS Health Corp.( founder 2005) and Lufkin & Jenrette LLP (founded 1985). In addition to these large companies there are numerous smaller businesses spread throughout downtown including restaurants/cafes/bars/nightlife venues/university research Institutes etc.) Although commercial activity continues to grow at an alarming rate there are also efforts underway by city leaders to create pedestrian friendly streetscape which will help reduce traffic congestion around main business districts
